After years of working with clients who expressed symptoms that were unmanageable or persistent no matter their efforts; I found the standard textbook approach for treating individuals was old and unable to create lifestyle changes so many of us searched for. I strongly believe that all patients are unique, therefore I will utilize the most integrative holistic treatment after taking into consideration the patient as a whole. I provide an open, non-judgmental environment where patients can feel safe and understood. I welcome clients of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

I’m a Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Behavior Analyst specializing in treating adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Before obtaining my master's in Clinical Psychology, I have been in the field of applied behavior analysis (ABA) for over four years. During graduate school, I continued enhancing my experience by working hands-on with adolescents and adults as a behavioral technician and student therapist. Having spent thousands of hours treating adolescents and adults with ASD, I'm familiar with the lack of resources for teens and adults on the spectrum, which is what led me here!

One of the greatest aspect of therapy is that it helps you to grow - grow in the way you feel, grow in how you behave, grow in the way you understand yourself. The therapeutic relationship can be a vital tool for enacting the change that leads to your own growth as a human. I offer an empathetic and safe space for you to openly explore and bring to the light things that may be easier to leave in the dark. We are all unique in our experiences in this life, but the emotions left over from those experiences can be universally felt and understood. Growth and understanding are without a doubt a possibility. It only begins with you.

I will never forget that terrible feeling that engulfed me. I was 19 years old and struggling just to catch my breath. I couldn't focus on anything but the sheer panic. I was having my first panic attack. It was a trusted therapist who came to my rescue. My therapist turned out to be a lighthouse for me when I was lost. With compassionate guidance she helped me heal and rid myself of the anxiety and panic. I valued what she did so much that it became my goal to also be that lighthouse for others who are drowning.

Life can be overwhelming at times for all of us. I recognize the strength that it can take to identify that and then ask for help. I appreciate the courage and strength it takes to be vulnerable with others, especially someone new. I welcome clients to my office by letting them set the pace for therapy. As a therapist, I am here to support and to guide, not to force the process. So come and have a seat with me and let us figure out what you need together.

Loss is universal to all of us. When we grieve someone we have lost to death it is usually profound and can create a myriad of emotions (sadness, anger, guilt, relief, etc.) There are other losses in life: divorce, job loss, a geographical move away from home or what is familiar to us, an illness (life threatening or chronic). We can feel adrift and unsettled. Sometimes the very essence of who we thought we were, our very identity is shattered. Sharing your loss with someone who has many years of experience can help in establishing a new sense of self. If you are experiencing loss, please call Peninsula Therapy.

After being a psychotherapist for 30 years, learning and growing on the journey, I now am passionate about supporting my clients to open to learning about all the aspects of themselves, dark and light, and bringing love and acceptance to it all. It is here that we find true happiness and purpose. Through awareness, we find our way to ceasing judgement and the eternal push to find happiness outside of ourselves.. And as we learn to be in the present moment, we develop valuable skills for self regulation and resilience, freeing us to live the life of our dreams.

Counseling is about the relationship. It is not the counseling technique employed by the therapist that matters as much as it is about the connection between the client and the counselor. It is my intent to help you feel comfortable sharing your struggles, desires, and goals while I strive to provide you with a safe and calming environment to create a relationship that allows for trust and growth.

My ideal client is ready to work on the trauma that led them here. Let’s talk about what is giving you distress today. Have you found that the same troubling thoughts are holding you back? Have your experiences left you confused, believing untrue and negative things about yourself, or invaded your thoughts uninvited? There's hope. Your mind’s natural process is towards healing. Let’s get to a place where perspective and understanding will lead to healthy and useful behaviors and interactions. Then things that hold you back and keep you in fear will finally let you go, so that you can move forward.

Asking for help can be incredibly difficult, but I'd like to help change that. For years, my personal mission has been to bring hope to those who are hurting. You don’t have to navigate these feelings alone. I have years of experience guiding people through grief and loss through individual therapy, facilitating support groups, developing bereavement programs, and speaking at seminars, trainings, and events throughout Southeastern Michigan.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Northville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
