Barbara Steele Martin

Counselor , MA , LMHC

(617) 446-3066
I am a licensed clinical therapist, educated at Wellesley College and Boston University's School of Medicine, who provides counseling to couples and individuals of all ages. I view counseling as an interactive and collaborative process that is based on your individual needs. I work with couples and individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship issues and life transitions. My approach is strongly humanistic, client-centered and cognitive behavioral based but also includes some psychodynamic techniques. I believe one of the key factors in successful therapeutic outcomes is building a safe, trusting and respectful relationship.
I specialize in anxiety issues, relational issues and the psychological considerations of career/life transitions. As a professional figure skater for over 10 years I have a profound understanding of the psychological rigors involved in having to perform under pressure as well as coping with major life and career transitions.
My practice specializes in working with athletes, actors, musicians, public speakers and other business professionals who must perform under pressure or who are experiencing a life transition and struggle with moderate to severe anxiety and/or depression.
