Life is a funny thing. And often terribly complicated. During our journey in this world, we often face challenges that can feel too big or ongoing. Whether it’s with chronic feelings of anxiousness, depression, emptiness, issues about sexual orientation, gender, or ethnicity, relationship conflict, sleep disturbances, substance misuse, school or work issues, or any combination of those, many of us struggle silently. But you don't have to. It can help to work with a therapist with a deep understanding of what it’s like with some of those struggles and who is passionate about helping others learn to thrive despite these adversities.

I love working with adults (age 18 and up) on anxiety, depression, attachment styles, and body image issues. My ideal clients are those who feel like they have been repeating habits and behaviors that are unhealthy and are wanting to learn how to change those patterns. I teach clients how to identify personal and interpersonal needs that are currently unmet and how to set more effective boundaries. I enjoy assisting clients who want to better understand their behaviors and learn how to develop self-awareness skills to help them feel more in control of their lives.

You feel more alive when you are open and less closed off, but you are growing less and less connected to your life. A part of you is drowning in worry, memory, thought, and the unrealistic expectations of others. You might be ready to open up and experience a new way of being, but you're also unsure. You can't stand the idea of sitting across from a snooty therapist who doesn't "get you", coldly taking notes and blindly asking how you feel. Screw that! You want a real connection with a real person who is offering more than a distant, clinical approach. Maybe you've finally found a therapist as unique and quirky as you are!

Whether you've experienced loss or are simply struggling with adapting to life's demands/ups and downs, good work on seeking out support and help. As a therapist, I am very passionate about offering ways to process grief that gets in the way of making connections and attachments. I am also passionate about supporting individuals who struggle with symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma. Those might be a lack of interest in daily activities, a lack of social support/connections, a lack of motivation, an increase in panic and/or anxiousness, or a tendency to be distracted/disorganized.

Are you looking for something deeper out of therapy than feeling emotionally validated or learning to change your thought patterns? If you're like many people I've talked with, you don't want band-aids. You don't want coping skills for your depression, mindfulness exercises for your anxiety or panic - you want to know WHY you're experiencing those challenges in the first place. If you're asking these deeper questions, there's some part of you that is longing for more than just the immediate relief from your symptoms. There is a part of you that desires serious personal growth and transformation. And I want to help you achieve it!

Feel overwhelmed or anxious or like your mind is racing? Fear ever grip your chest? Your mind keeps looping on the same thoughts, fears, or upsetting memories. You can’t get a good night’s sleep, and you feel irritable, on-edge, or not-in-control. That critical voice in your head won’t shut up and often brings its friends – worry, panic, anger, guilt, and shame. Right now, life doesn’t look or feel the way you want it to. You wonder ‘What the hell is wrong with me? How can I fix this?’ You just want a way to quiet the chaos, move past painful experiences, and get back to the things that are most important to you in life.

We all have had experiences throughout life that shape, enhance, or distort our perceptions of relationships and interactions. Some of these experiences can hinder us, stop us in our tracks, keep us cycling in a dysfunctional loop, or thrust us forward into turmoil. We can get stuck in these places, desperately seeking a way out. Depression, anxiety, anger, and loneliness kick us into a dysfunctional spiral. These cycles often pair with undercurrents of pain, confusion, self-criticism, doubt, and shame. I want to help shine light on the map you have been using by sorting out your thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes in life, we just feel overwhelmed. Anxious, depressed, scared. Old behavior patterns can often cause us to feel "stuck". Having a trained, experienced, and supportive professional to guide you through these frustrating, and often painful experiences, can be the key to making the change you want in your life.

With over 25 years in the mental health field and 13 years in private practice, I offer a multitude of personal and professional experience. Much of our suffering is due to dissatisfaction in relationships. Sadly, many relationships end prematurely when we are most hurt and emotionally vulnerable. However, this is the time when the very intimacy we were lacking prior has the potential to finally break through. I give you tools and insight to heal old wounds that are holding you back from experiencing the love you seek within yourself and others. Together we address the intrapsychic conflicts and longings of the soul.

I offer expressive and emotionally based therapies to children (ages 6 and older) a warm and nurturing environment which provides a safe space to do any healing they might need to do to move forward, to feel better about who they are, or share what might have happened in their lives that makes their heart ache. I help teens and young adults navigate the turbulence of hormones, and school work, friendships and home life, college and relationships, and all the other activities and significant events happening, while trying to discover who they are and what makes them feel most alive.

I know getting started can be hard. My goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible so we can go at your pace. I specialize in working with clients with anxiety, ADHD, and trauma. Many of my clients have tried to cope with their situations by pushing their feelings away or using addictive behaviors to numb them. My job is to help people listen to and manage their emotions without feeling overwhelmed or ruled by them. Being personally in recovery from alcohol helps me understand and empathize with what you’re going through because I’ve probably been there too.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
