Hello and welcome. I offer psychotherapy for adults, couples, families, and teens dealing with relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality issues, schizophrenia, and other mental health problems. I also help family members understand their loved one's difficulties and help couples and families communicate more effectively. I believe that change occurs within the context of a positive therapeutic relationship and my focus is on creating a caring, compassionate, and sensitive space where individuals, couples, and families can make significant change in their lives.
I use well-researched treatment methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Family Focused Therapy and my work has been informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. In addition to my practice, I am a Professor Emeritus in the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Alliant International University.
I completed my PhD working with Dr. Steven Hayes, the developer of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I subsequently worked with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and completed an NIMH fellowship at UCLA working with Dr. David Miklowitz, the developer of family-focused treatment (FFT).
