Some of my specialties include Grief, Anxiety, Depression, Substance abuse, Relationship Issues, and helping you create balance in your life.
I believe that meaningful therapy is possible when you feel deeply heard, understood, and appreciated while you are experiencing challenges that may seem overwhelming. Your unique story is important to me and we can work together to try and make sense of it. I take time to listen and learn what is most helpful for your growth and well-being. This includes hearing about your strengths as well as your struggles. You are encouraged to share your ideas about what you hope to accomplish as we create goals together.

I am LGBTQ+ affirming, cross-culturally responsive, and experienced in couples therapy.
The skills you’ve learned to survive may not be the same that allow you to thrive. Growth takes an exceptional amount of patience, resilience, and vulnerability and seeking help is the first step towards change. Professional therapy provides the opportunity to first assess our patterns of behavior with honesty and compassion, so that we might cultivate our most authentic selves. In our shared work, I strive to create a considerate, empathetic, and empowering space dedicated to the long-term success of all clients.

I use Attachment Theory because our relationship with our parents impacts our adult relationships.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I obtained my B.A. in psychology from Southern Illinois University. My interest in male/female relationships led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. But I don’t only work with families. Families are comprised of two individuals who were reared in his/her family of origin from which they developed their worldview and values. Two unique individuals come together, bringing their experiences with them into the relationship. These differences can result in conflict. My job is to help them see how the conflict arose and constructive ways to resolve

Couples Therapy is a true specialty. Whether you are on the brink of a break-up or seeking a deeper connection with your partner, I can help. I can help you explore the imbalances that lead to disconnection, dissatisfaction and ultimately the deadening of a relationship. I offer my non-judgmental presence, training and experience to couples and individual adults.

Your eldering can and should be vibrant and happy. For a long time, we believed development stopped when an individual entered adulthood. This is far from true. Not all the transitions of middle and later life are easy or welcome. No one has to feel depressed, alone, bored, isolated and forgotten. I support individuals, couples, families and caregivers as they navigate the important transitions of later life. Later life is a time of dynamic personal change and growth.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
