My experience includes working with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, marital issues, assertiveness training, behavioral modification, career issues, stress management, and developmental disabilities.
One of the biggest predictors for the success of therapy is your relationship with your counselor. I take your goals seriously and strive to guide each person in finding a solution that works for them. Each journey is a unique experience. I am a two-time graduate from The University of Georgia (no worries, I see fans of other SEC teams but may require you to say "GoDawgs" prior to session) with a Masters in Professional Counseling. I hold a certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a National Certified Counselor and a LPC in the state of Georgia.

Have you tried therapy before and walked away feeling misunderstood? Have you worried that you wouldn't be able to share everything about yourself in session, fearing judgement? When we don’t fit the norms around us, it’s pretty easy for anxiety and depression to wreak havoc on our mental health and self-esteem, making it more difficult to feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable. Having struggled with alienation myself, I’ve gravitated to helping people who experience this too.

In a world of Snapchat filters, Photoshop, and social media posts of others ‘living their best life,’ it’s far too easy to believe that everyone (but you) has it all together. Do you wonder if you’re the only one who struggles with esteem, image, sex, and relationships? Spoiler alert: you are NOT the only one fighting those battles and you are NOT alone. I have devoted my life to helping others in their worst moments. After spending more than twenty years in public safety, I decided to be helpful in a very different way and began my journey on a new path that includes counseling, activism, and education.

Change can be scary at times, and yet feeling stagnant can often mimic a hostage situation; where we feel trapped in a negative mindset.

Believe it or not...this is a FUN process. The most important aspect of counseling is to attain the goals you identify. You are the expert in your own life. I am comfortable working with clients who have identified almost any problem area but specifically I am well trained in treating anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, and problems in the social and family environment. I work on the goals you identify rather than my opinion of what you should work on. This makes me a very non-judgmental personal and I develop strong positive relationships with my clients.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
