Hi there! I’m Kat and I’m so glad you’re reaching out. Grief, loss, and other significant life changes can feel all-consuming and overwhelming. I'm here to offer a safe space for navigating big emotions and new circumstances. I work closely with you (or your child), helping with emotional regulation, staying grounded in the body, and building resilience. We’ll use play, creativity, mindfulness, movement, storytelling, and talk therapy to feel into the hard parts of grief, loss, trauma, and relationships. I'm here to walk with you, to be an empowering companion, and to bear witness to your resilience and sense of self.

My clinical interests cover depression, anxiety, intergenerational/racialized trauma, childhood trauma, relationship conflicts, addiction, existential crises and various issues through a de-pathologized/anti-oppression lens supplemented by neuroscience.
The world is becoming more complex as we are expected to do more with less time and energy. What if you were already coping with difficulties from a not so distant past? With my own history of self worth/doubt, health issues and being told "I don't belong here", I can vividly remember the frustration and loneliness of trying to "live your life" while feeling excluded. I draw from this to empathize and build a mutual understanding of "now" and create a path to a more authentic version of "you." We often look to the past to find origins of problems, but its equally important to dig through our history to find gems of resilience.

I believe that trauma is the universal experience --we all carry trauma with us--which is why I'm a trauma therapist with a focus on complex PTSD. I am EMDR-trained but I draw on many therapeutic modalities to meet my client's needs. To me, therapy is about releasing the things that prevent us from moving toward ease in our daily lives, in our relationships, and in the way we show up in the world.

Do anxiety, trauma and insecurity run your life more than your values and dreams? Do you relive the past as if it were happening right now? Your head knows better, but it fails to convince your heart otherwise. As challenging as those experiences were for the past, they continue to zap away your joy and confidence today. You might even avoid situations that trigger the feelings.

While these methods can be highly effective in relieving anxiety and the impact of trauma, our therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of therapy.
Feeling stressed, anxious, on edge, not allowing yourself to feel happy for fear of the next bad thing that might happen. Highly sensitive, you get hurt easily and the emotions take over leaving you doubting yourself and not able to trust others. It’s getting in the way of your life and your relationships. Trying to avoid it, keep yourself busy, or think your way out of it isn’t working. Your insecurity tells you to put others first, but then you feel used or taken for granted. You so want to be seen, heard, and acknowledged.

Are you grappling with the impacts of a loss, medical diagnosis, or trauma? Loss is common to the human experience, but when it stems from the death of a loved one or a cancer diagnosis, it can be especially isolating and overwhelming. You’re asking big questions: Will I always feel like this? Is this normal? When will my suffering end? And despite trying therapy in the past or talking to your friends and family, it’s felt like no one has truly understood your experience. You’re craving warmth, safety, and radical unconditional regard—somewhere all of your emotions, questions, and fears can be freely shared and expressed.

Like people, trauma can be individualized. I'd love to listen to any concerns like anxiety or depression that are causing you to feel stuck. Most people struggling with their mental health feel disconnected and isolated. Let's build community with one another. I understand how trauma can play a role in how we function day to day, and I believe there are many different methods to combat this, which is why I incorporate EMDR therapy to help relieve that trauma. Let's explore what a self-reliant you looks like.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
