You're troubled and don't know the way out. The strategies you may have tried--addictions, ruminating, blaming others or yourself, and secrecy--don't hold the answers and increase your suffering. I would be happy to talk with you about your situation and explore how therapy could help you find the way out. I understand about addiction, trauma, and the difficulty of feeling safe and learning to trust again. I can help you take charge of your life and solve problems so that you can cultivate happiness from within and create a better life for yourself.

Many people go through challenging times and can feel “stuck” in their lives. But with hope, patience, and determination, this can change. People can find the light again in their dark times. We can learn to think and feel differently about ourselves and the world around us. We can learn ways to identify and use our inner strengths that we all have. We can learn to talk about our emotions that are normal and ways to tolerate stress when things are out of our control. These are just a few of many therapeutic approaches I use with clients and their diverse needs.

My style is trauma-informed and influenced by cognitive, existential & psychodynamic approaches.
Are you grappling with themes of meaning and purpose? Feeling defined by your past, destined to repeat the same unfulfilling cycles for the unforeseeable future? Maybe it feels like the issue is your career, your relationship, or the city you’re living in. You may also be thinking that if you just lose some weight, get more sleep, make a little more money, or find some adventure, surely then you’d be happy. The truth is that you are not doomed to this kind of unending disconnection and dissatisfaction, nor are you destined to perpetuate the cycles of generations before you.

My approach assimilates psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic therapy techniques.
Therapy can allow individuals to heal, evolve and increase positive emotional states of self-worth. Given the opportunity to actively help young adults and families towards reducing barriers and communication errors, the therapeutic process can be very rewarding. As a therapist, offering therapeutic strategies and tasks can help support an individual's day to day. My demeanor is warm and welcoming while working collaboratively with my clients in order to help them to define their personal goals.

While working from a psychodynamic perspective, I may incorporate cognitive behavioral techniques and skills from behavioral and interpersonal approaches based on your needs.
The decision to start therapy is a very personal and courageous one. Therapy is a process of change, empowerment, and self-growth. I have worked with people from all age groups, ranging from children to older adults. I have a particular interest in the psychological adjustments of parenthood. It is through the struggles in life where we emerge stronger and more compassionate people.

I integrate exploratory, psychodynamic techniques with cognitive behavioral work, and mindfulness strategies, so that insights can be best translated into long-lasting, satisfying change.
Life presents us with many challenges. Everyone experiences a degree of distress or worry along the way. Therapy provides a safe, supportive partnership in which you can begin to understand your experiences, identify areas you’d like to change, build on strengths, and ultimately make choices to create a greater sense of well-being. Many individuals I work with are intelligent, accomplished people who feel they could benefit from a deeper exploration of the questions they are encountering with respect to career, relationships or personal identity. My style is warm and collaborative.

I completed a thirteen month post-graduate certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from Smith College.
I am a psychotherapist specializing in growth-oriented counseling with adults & couples. My clients typically work to increase awareness of their present life patterns which lead to various forms of emotional distress. This pain often causes significant disruption in their social, work, physical lives or intimate relationships. Early life experiences influence how we all experience our lives today. Insights and associations during talk therapy often bring previously unseen dynamics to light leading to healthier choices and increased fulfillment. Sessions take place weekly over the course of many months or more for lasting growth.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over 25 years. It has been the most rewarding career. I see each patient I treat as an opportunity to help them grow, heal, learn, strengthen themselves, and nurture themselves to be their most authentic self. I am caring, attentive, genuine, interactive, and most of all, a guide to helping someone set goals to achieve that can make them feel happier and more fulfilled in their life. I have an eclectic approach utilizing psychodynamic principles, interpersonal therapy, solutions-focused therapy, coping skills training, psychoeducation, goal-setting strategies, and more.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
