I offer compassion, patience, and safety as we endeavor to better understand what has brought you to therapy, and how to move through to something new. My work is trauma-informed and grounded in principles of empowerment.

We are all born whole, in lovingkind perfection. But life produces obstacles that sidetrack our becoming ourselves. Obstacles take any forms: trauma in the body, inauthentic identities, existential fears, beliefs indoctrinated but in conflict with one's essential values, or anxiety that something is wrong with oneself. The result can be alienation, grief, substance use issues, depression, anxiety, difficulty connecting, or incapacity to speak or create from the heart. Reconnecting with ones body, the natural world, and with an unconditional community are the foundations re-emerging into the Self you've always been.

I want to assist you in examining why you feel like your life is not where you think or sense it should be. Why you have a nagging feeling that perhaps you're wasting time and not living your life in a more deep and fulfilling manner. You may think you're “not good enough,” or “if only this would have/not have happened," life would be different. The activities you do feel banal, going to work/school is dreadful, relationships and family are difficult, and the values and beliefs that once held you have lost their ground. You feel lonely, depressed, anxious, and perhaps substance use is worsening. You’re wondering about doing therapy.

IFS helps client to learn and identify symptoms (parts): Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Substance Use, relational difficulties in a way that promotes healing through self-awareness, self-compassion and emotional regulation.
Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR are 3 evidenced based approaches I use that can help heal relationships, trauma, depression, and anxiety. My personal recovery from trauma symptoms and substance utilizing IFS and community support have helped me hold a wider space for the pain that drives the behavior of addiction. I hold no judgment for the person seeking help. I hold this view within the context of relationship therapy as well.

I see people from a variety of backgrounds, including many therapists.

My passion is working with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or substance use disorders.
I believe what leads people to seek therapy is the feeling of uncertainty about life choices, the ineffective behavioral and thinking patterns that are acted on over and over again. These patterns can show up in our relationship to ourselves, to substances, and especially to others. I approach therapy with the genuine belief that all people are worthy and capable of breaking these patterns and creating healthy relationships with themselves, with others and creating an authentic life.

I've helped numerous individuals over the years, including those with relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss & grief, parenting struggles, cultural/racial issues, health problems and substance use.
Hi there! I am a psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the field. My experience has allowed me to bring a deeper perspective to situations, and I know the value of giving that feedback to my clients. I utilize a variety of approaches like CBT, EMDR, Solution-Focused, Psychodynamic and Existential therapies. I had a thriving practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, but chose to live in beautiful and active Boulder instead. Because I just recently opened my practice to in-person clients here, I have openings!

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
