I have varied experience working with adults, children, and families but love helping those with systemic issues such as substance use, gender issues, and trauma.
Are you currently in transition attempting to figure out what your next move should be or how to navigate current challenges? Do you feel anxious and/or depressed more often than not? Do you use alcohol and/or substances to cope with past traumas or current stressors? Or maybe you're finally ready to live your life on your own terms and need support to start?

I have worked in a mandated setting for 3 years with clients with substance use concerns.
Hello there! Life can be hard at times, but we don't have to do it alone. Congratulations on reaching out and taking the first step toward a better you! I believe counseling can change your life if you let it and anyone can benefit from counseling. My ideal client is someone who understands that counseling isn't always easy, but is ready to start their journey with an open mindset and determination to make themselves better. Counseling is often like healing a wound, it can be uncomfortable, but the healing process can be so rewarding in the long run. I can't wait to walk alongside you!

I love helping individuals dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, substance use, relationship issues, stress management, self-esteem, and trauma/abuse.
I believe seeking help to overcome difficulties in life is a sign of immense strength. We all face challenges, big and small, and sometimes we need someone to walk with us through those tough times. My role as your therapist is to meet you where you are in life and provide a safe, nurturing environment free of judgement, for you to work through any challenges you may be facing while providing appropriate coping skills to conquer those issues. It is essential to remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness or failure, but rather a courageous step towards personal growth, resilience, and well-being!

I have a background in substance use treatment and clients with court and criminal involvement.
Have you ever felt that life is just too overwhelming? Like maybe you’re taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back or as hard as you try things just don’t seem to fall into place? If so then you could benefit from having a professional counselor to help you process what’s going on in your life. My job would be to walk with you on your journey, hold up a mirror for you to help you identify any patterns and obstacles and help come up with possible solutions. My job is to help you not have to walk on your journey alone.

I specialize in working with Substance Use Disorders, anxiety, depression and stress.
Evening sessions available! Accepting new clients! Limited income-based (sliding scale) spots available. I do not have an "ideal" client. Instead, I strive to be the "ideal" therapist for each client. Every client presents with different problems, different goals, and different motivators. Therefore, it is my job as the therapist to meet each client where they are at and provide them with the services they need and deserve. The one thing that I believe all clients have in common is the desire to take action that will promote them to a higher level of functioning in their every day life.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
