I am a Licensed MFT working with individual adults and couples.
I have current openings for self-pay, telehealth clients- I believe everyone is capable of the change they want to achieve, and the first step is reaching out for help. Are you struggling with communication issues in your relationship? Does anxiety prevent you from living the life you want? Is the trauma you experienced impacting your day-to-day life, making it hard to feel safe or to trust? I want to work with you to help you feel better and fulfill your potential. Sometimes it just takes someone else believing in us for us to start believing in ourselves. I take an inherently positive approach, finding the potential in everyone.

People are meant to be emotionally connected with others. When we experience problems in how we relate with others, we may develop anxiety, depression, or lose our self confidence. Much of the pain we experience in life occurs when we have trouble relating to others. Research has consistently found that in therapy, the relationship that develops between you and your therapist is the most powerful aspect of the healing process. With this in mind, I work to help you feel respected, safe, cared about and deeply heard.

I work with emerging adults (18-21), adults, and couples, and I specialize in a range of issues, including mood disorders, complex trauma, individuation, existential questioning and alienation, embodiment difficulties, and relationship challenges.
Psychological suffering exists on different levels and manifests in different ways, in psyche, body, interpersonally, socially, both consciously and unconsciously. Thankfully, there are many ways to address psychological struggle, ranging from the exploration of non-conscious intra-psychic and interpersonal dynamics underlying "symptoms" to the exploration of ways that we are alienated from community and meaningful action in community. My work is social justice-informed and incorporates an understanding of how larger socio-political systems impact our lives. Facilitating empowerment is key in my work.

A few experiences in my life have positively impacted my connection with others. A majority of my experience has been working in dual diagnosis facilities, which has provided me with considerable insight into mental health and substance abuse. Secondly, I worked as a special education teacher, gaining insight from both the parent’s and child’s perspective. Lastly, as the spouse of an active duty and now veteran sailor, I am deeply connected to the veterans community.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
