In over fifteen years as I counselor I have seen with both young and old overcome the inner struggles that have held them back in life. I work with children and teens so that they can find success at home, school, and in life and help them with behavioral problems and struggles to make friends and socialize. I also provide therapy to both teens and adults struggling with anxiety issues, depression, stress, anger, addiction, and chemical dependency to help them find the freedom they seek. I use a combination of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Play Therapy which I adapt to the needs and preferences of the client.

The purpose of therapy is to restore the client to a healthy state of life by helping to remove barriers that may hinder this process. I specialize in the mental health care of children, adults, couples and families. My services include individual, group, marriage counseling and family therapy. Parent training, workshops, play therapy and prevention groups are also offered. I have twenty years experience working within the field of mental health. I utilize a number of therapeutic techniques and interventions that are tailored to the the client. I'm an Independent Assessor, Clinical Supervisor, mentor and consultant.

Working with you as a client, I place the most importance on building and developing a secure and caring relationship. My ultimate goal in life is to be of service to individuals and families as much as possible. Life is meant to be lived in harmony. Having a career as a therapist is one of the greatest joys of my life. I'm grateful for the opportunity to walk with/guide my clients through whatever struggles they face. Counseling is not just an educational endeavor for me, it is my true life’s passion. As my primary spiritual/natural gift, my purpose on earth is to utilize my counseling skills to serve others in any capacity that I can. We have all felt sad, angry, lonely, misunderstood, unforgiven, misused, abused, fed up, and so on and so forth. Our goal in therapy would be to examine your emotional well being and how it impacts your life. While you process through everything from past trauma to current conflicts, it is significant to know that your growth and healing is what is most important to me.

Restoring the lightness of being. I am an energy healer. We are a body of light - mind body and spirit. Events in life leave a memory of emotions in our cells and organs that affect the physical and emotional body. As a consequence pain, disease, depression, hopelessness, anxiety, fears, etc come to the surface.

I believe that everyone who walks into my office comes with their own unique personality and life experiences; I don't believe that the same approach works for everyone. People are so much more than the diagnosis or "label" they are given. Getting to know my clients and building a trusting relationship is the most important part of therapy. In the end, my goal is to help my clients rely on their own strengths and successes to help them through personal challenges.

Dr. LaFleur is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor (LPC-S), a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor and a Counselor Educator at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents as well as Filial Play Therapy which is a parent training program designed to increase communication and build a stronger and healthier relationship between parents and their children.
