I am a certified Autism Specialist and AutPlay therapist.
Something is not quite right...you notice little things at first and then you get your child checked out because you just can't shake that parental feeling that something is wrong. And you hear the words... your child has Autism. Your world shatters...I know, I have been there not just once, but twice with my son and my daughter. In the Autism world there are acronyms like: SLP, OT, PT, OCD, ADHD,ODD & ABA. There are so many different therapies needed. It can be overwhelming for you, your family and your child. There is hope. There is life. Autism is a journey and we can help with your journey.

Are you an adult looking for an autism/ADHD evaluation via telehealth? Or someone looking for a spiritually-based life coach, someone to help you live and work from a place of clear soul-alignment so everything you do reflects your truest self? How about someone who helps you understand what is holding you back from living with purpose, passion, and complete authenticity? And shows you how to live life as if it was rigged in your favor (as Rumi says). Who would you be if....you lived with no barriers or boundaries to what and who you could become? And you lived each day with joy and a love of living each moment to the fullest.

Families living with the challenges of ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and learning differences often struggle to find appropriate evaluations and interventions for children, teens, and young adults. You often feel alone, and that no one experiences what you're going through. The stress that comes with parenting a child with learning, behavioral, or social challenges can make your home life feel chaotic. Your family relationships can also be strained and disconnected. You are ready to understand WHY your child is (or you are) having difficulties, and to get tools and strategies to make the changes needed for lasting improvement.

I have experience with autism and autism related disorders in a variety of contexts.
Helping others is a primary life purpose for me. Being able to aid people in growth, education, healing, and direction has been and continues to be a great joy in my life. Beginning my training and work as a special educator has helped me to be able to understand neurodiversity, differing communication styles, and different learning modalities as I transitioned into the counseling field. Being trained in systems theory allows me to see people more holistically, within the full context of their lives.

My focus is autism and co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, and addictions.
Applied Behavior Analysis is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. It helps us understand how behavior works, how it affects the environment, and how learning occurs. ABA is an intervention that works across all ages and disciplines. My passion for ABA comes from seeing its success with my child, now an adult with autism. He is my purpose in this journey. Using visual data analysis, evidence-based assessments, and interventions, I can help you create focused and comprehensive goals such as social skills, self-management, and other impactful behavior to solve real problems and develop lifelong abilities.

I am enthusiastic about working with those motivated to begin their counseling journey. In my previous career as a teacher, I developed effective skills for working with children, adolescents, and adults. I typically work with teens and adults who struggle to adjust after experiencing trauma, particularly sexual trauma and interpersonal violence. I am deeply passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community through coming out, life transitions, and marital and couples issues. Additionally, I enjoy working through issues of interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, and with adults with ADHD and/or Autism.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
