I work with individuals and couples, using psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems therapies to find new approaches and solutions to problems that may have seemed insurmountable.
UPDATE: I currently have openings for new telehealth clients (MD, IL, and PSYPACT states). My practice consists of a small group of psychologists focused on helping clients make changes toward more fulfilling, connected, and healthier lives. Knowing it can be difficult to reach out for help, I create a caring, safe space in which we work collaboratively to foster healing and eliminate barriers to finding meaning and living life more fully. Therapy is a collaborative endeavor, and it is key to develop an effective and nurturing relationship in which we have a common understanding of the challenges you face.

Through individual, group and family therapy services, you can work through challenges that have come with your chronic illness.
Whether you've been newly diagnosed or have been living with an illness for a while, you’ve been trying to push through to live the best you can. Every day is a battle because your body feels sick from aches, pains or other symptoms. You brace yourself for the worst to happen, because that’s unfortunately been your “new norm.” You miss being your old self - the one that could “do more things." Now, you feel like a failure in many areas of your life. The smile you wear covers what you really feel – alone, worried, helpless and angry. All of this has taken a toll on you emotionally and you want to feel more in control of your worries.

Living as an immigrant or person of color in America can be really challenging. You may be struggling with navigating multiple cultural identities, meeting family and community expectations, facing discrimination and limited opportunities, or finding belonging and feeling at peace with your authentic self. You may feel guilt, obligation, or that you are never “enough”. You may struggle in relationships because it feels difficult to find time for yourself, you are never sure where you stand, or if you are fully accepted as you are.

I do individual therapy, as well as family and couples counseling.
I emphasize a collaborative approach to therapy--I bring 30 years of clinical experience, as well as enthusiasm, hope, and a dose of humor, and ask only that you bring an openness to change. Together, we identify specific life goals and generate plans to achieve them. Ultimately, you will come to understand that you make perfect sense; you may just not have been able to use this self-awareness to make the most productive decisions. My strong suit is quickly identifying underlying problems and patterns, as well as personal strengths and resources, and from there we chart your personal path.

Glad you found me and I look forward to working with you! I enjoy working directly with people to allow a deeper connection on a personal level whether you're new to therapy or not. I actively engage honestly and authentically in the counseling and healing process, exploring and addressing issues directly as they arise. I allow time for deeper understanding as the counseling process unfolds. I have been a successful clinical social work therapist for many years, working with a wide range of both hearing and deaf people (I sign fluently) on individual, children, youth, couple, and family issues. I also supervise other clinicians.

Life can feel challenging, overwhelming, and stressful to the point that you feel unable to stay afloat. When life gets to this point, you might be wondering how to keep moving forward. Despite the desire for a life that feels more like living and less like surviving; taking the first step to seek out help can feel overwhelming. I will be with you every step of the way to sit alongside you through the journey. Therapy takes time but it allows you to explore yourself, reconnect with the things that matter most to you, and pave the way for the life you want to have. Let’s do that together.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
