Many of us are not raised in our family of origin. Are you a parent who surrendered a child for adoption? Were you adopted? Perhaps you were raised in a home of a different cultural background. As you are maturing, do you desire more control over your life, your anxieties, your actions and your choices? I am here to provide you with a safe, warm, soothing sanctuary where you can explore your grief and loss around the past. You can gain the authenticity you are seeking.

There was a time when you couldn't have dreamed you'd be searching for a couple's therapist. A relationship that was once full of joy, hope for the future, and deep connection, now brings feelings of longing, defensiveness, and criticism. You want to find your way back to connection, but the negative cycle is winning, and your emotional bond is crumbling. The idea of losing the person you love most is excruciating. You need help, where do you turn and who do you trust? Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidence-based approach, I work with couples to heal disconnection.

You are your own worst critic and you can't turn down that negative voice. You give so much to others: your spouse, children, parents, and friends..and you feel overlooked and drained. You're struggling and can't seem to find relief. You haven't felt like yourself in longer than you can remember. And it is all starting to feel like too much. Now...Imagine waking up full of energy and actually looking forward to your day. Imagine looking in the mirror and loving the person looking back. Imagine having fulfilling relationships--the best one with yourself! You are confident, strong, and happy. How can you make this happen?

"You do not find a happy life, you make it!" - Camilla Kimball. I began counseling to battle the common belief that we are powerless in controlling our thoughts and feelings. Individuals of any age can regain this power and make a change within their lives. You might wish to be less anxious in social situations or create more meaningful relationships. Maybe you are replaying awkward moments over and over whilst trying to fall asleep, wishing things were different. "If only I was ......, I would be ok?" I want to learn your story, without judgment.

Do you want a change and aren’t sure how to get there? Maybe you’re not sure exactly what you want or need, are at a crossroads, or are longing to move forward from something painful? It's never too late to create a life you’re excited about, no matter what has happened or what you're struggling with today. And you don't have to do it alone. As a therapist, I love supporting people to find their voice and their power. Because how you see your story, and what actions you take in your life as a result, can either create stress, sadness, anger, and inner turmoil; or joy, inspiration, hope, and relaxation.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
