I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as attachment- based, ERP, DBT, CBT, EMDR, IFS, EFT, emphasizing the importance of integrating these models to best suit individual needs.
I have over 20 years experience working and growing with the continually developing mental health field. I believe in the immovable strength that all people have within them. Trauma, pain, and disheartenment are all part of the human experience. We are all connected by these experiences, and our abilities to overcome life’s greatest challenges. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach and I believe strongly in my ability to work with the diversity of mental health issues.

When working with couples, I enjoy using either EFT or Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
If you find yourself struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, etc., I am here to help. Sometimes we take a look at life and who we are and aren't quite happy with what we see. If this relates to you and you want to change, I can help you navigate this difficult time. I am happy to work with individuals, but also see great value in working with couples and families. Significant others and/or family members are encouraged and welcome!

My practice is informed by the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Process and other effective evidence-based therapy models.
The challenges we experience day-to-day vary based on our personal experience of distressing moods, traumatic events, difficulty in our relationships, grief and loss, addictions and challenges in the way we see ourselves and others. I believe that every individual has the potential to live a rich, fulfilling, and meaningful life no matter the challenges they face. I work with each client and couple to help them identify their own unique set of strengths, values, and goals that will empower them to achieve the change that they seek.

My theoretical foundations include aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Sometimes life throws us for a loop–we get into an unexpected situation, a loved one passes away, our relationships are fraught with contention–and we feel stuck. When this happens, you don’t have to figure everything out alone. Loneliness and isolation make things worse. When clients work collaboratively with me, I help them find hope, move elegantly through life’s obstacles, and rekindle their passions. I work with a variety of presenting problems, including anxiety, depression, couple and family issues, step-family issues, and parent-child relational issues.

I work with couples to repair their relationships using the Gottman Method as well as elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy.
I know that it is not easy facing life's issues. Talking about them and learning to manage life differently can increase our ability to live happy, more productive lives. My person-oriented style of counseling helps to build the necessary skills one needs for more satisfying relationships and life experiences. I would be grateful to be included in your healing process. I especially love to help improve the physical connection in couples, and help overcome and heal unhealthy cultural or emotional traumas that may be inhibiting the ability to have a fulfilling sexual relationship.

About 10 years ago I read a book about Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
Teens: I didn’t start working with teens, it sort of happened organically. Now, several years later, I just had the mother of one of my clients tell me she waited several months to get her kid into “The Teen Whisperer”. I had to laugh as that was the first time I had heard that. My wife and I have a blended family with 8 kids. I LOVE working with teens and helping them achieve their ultimate potential. Teens are open to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and they are very curious. Let me help your teen get on the right track! I work with teens with depression, anxiety, struggling with grades and social challenges.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
