Mindfulness with sincere work towards change will allow us to grow and develop into the human beings we are created to be. None of us are perfect...we are human beings affected by the winds of the world and the people that we come into contact with, if only for a moment. As well as those decisions we make...the bad ones and the good ones. As a therapist I will do the best I can to encourage you the Client to be mindful of the process of change. And it is a process!

I specialize in Mindfulness, EMDR, DBT, CBT, Trauma Focused, Art and Baking Therapy, Walk & Talk therapy, and Christian Counseling.
Life can seem overwhelming and intense, at times it may feel like the chaos and confusion are too much to bear on your own. Conflicts within ourselves, our spouses, family, friends and children arise, uncertainty of when it will end begins to consume us and starts to feel normal. Sometimes life has felt like this since childhood, carrying a weight that is too heavy, creating patterns and a lifestyle that just aren’t working. Children can experience intense and uncertain feelings, not knowing how to regulate their emotions, or seek out validation can lead to confusion that transpires into adulthood.

My areas of focus are individual work, especially with women 18-40 as they grow into their power as women. I have over 35 years clinical experience, training in gestalt and pyschoanalytic psychotherapy, mindfulness based stress reduction. My goal is to increase your awareness of who you are, why you respond and/or make the choices that you do and look for alternatives. I find that life is a journey that never ends, I hope people find internal contentment, tranquility, and learn to care about themselves. All we do is talk about events of your past and how you were effected. I take what I do seriously, but due to the intensity of what we do, try to have fun in the process.

I specialize in using skills from Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
Most of us have been there: spinning our wheels trying to outrun our past, struggling to get out of bed and make it through the day, internally crippling under the weight of just so many thoughts and expectations, struggling to just feel like yourself from one day to the next. If you’re tired of fighting these battles alone, I want to help. As a mental health therapist, my goal is to help clients overcome trauma, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.

My area of expertise includes cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction.
I help those having difficulty controlling their frustrations. Anger and other intense emotions can impact your judgement and decision making, which can lead to problems with your thoughts, feelings, and how you interact with others. I help individuals with goals that might include: becoming more in control of their emotions, working on managing stress and anger, and dealing with conflict in a healthy way. I teach men how to become emotionally vulnerable, which leads to greater satisfactions in relationships with others and themselves. The greater we know ourselves, the more connected we feel with others.

Every experience both firsthand and indirectly leaves a mark on our mind and bodies further shaping the view we hold of ourselves, others, and the world. Manifestations of mental, emotional, and physiological symptoms from these experiences can leave us feeling disconnected, adrift, or uncertain. I utilize the treatment approaches of Somatic, Mindfulness - Based (MBCT), and Trauma Focused while incorporating various forms of wellness such as yoga which can assist in peeling back the layers of the body and mind to re-align with the true self.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
