The journey to fuller self understanding is one of our most important pursuits, leading to a more solid sense of self, purpose, and direction. I work collaboratively with clients to clarify their goals, identify their strengths and obstacles, and examine their deeper mind and emotions. My passion for neuroscience means I work with the brain's natural tendencies and processes to help my client’s create meaningful change. I work with teens and adults, specializing in anxiety and mood issues; struggles with self esteem; coping strategies; focus and executive function; peer relationship issues; and parenting matters.

For me, being a therapist is a privilege. I like to work with anyone eager to understand what is happening to them in their life. Together, we'll try to understand the factors that are creating the trouble - including some of the unconscious ones - and then we'll put them in perspective, cut them down to size, and talk about what can be done. I create a safe, intelligent, and empathic environment for counseling where we can talk about anything without judgment. My office is a safe place to be yourself. So many of our problems have their root in isolation and anxiety, and that is something we can address together.

I typically work with male adolescents, young adults, and early-career professionals who often feel pulled by life either unsure or afraid about the direction in which they are currently tracking. Previous experiences with perceived failure have overwhelmed them. Consequently, they have internalized that they are too fragile to endure future adversity. As a result of fear and low self-esteem, the person prefers the predictability of hedging bets of personal investment, which can look like stagnancy or a lack of motivation. The general goals are to increase one's overall mental health and actively construct a more purposeful life.

The "unknown" of counseling may be a bit scary, especially if it is for your child. What will they talk about? Do they really need to "go see somebody?" What's the parking situation like? Let's be honest; we all need someone at one point or another, especially in our younger years of life as a child. Parenting can be HARD, and so can being a kid! I am ready to partner with you and your child to support your goals and overall wellness. I work primarily with pediatrics; ages 2-17, in the areas of school-based problems, self-esteem, executive functioning, ADHD, anxiety, friendship issues, family dynamics, and so forth.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
