On most days, you’re the one giving the help, not asking for it. You are the person your family, coworkers, and friends come to when there is a crisis or they need advice. After years of being the rock for loved ones, on top of trying to manage your own life, you now find yourself exhausted, feeling depleted, and struggling to maintain this role you've performed for so long. You feel like you're on the edge - if you don’t do something now you worry you’ll unravel.

I enjoy working from a family systems perspective to aid people in understanding how their experiences growing up in their family of origin tend to influence how they function in other relationships throughout their lives.
I have worked in a variety of counseling and mental health settings for over 27 yrs. I have had the opportunity to work with individuals, couples and families with issues such as mood disorders, marital conflict, addiction, parenting and major life adjustment situations such as divorce, unemployment, and major health changes.

No one is immune from the stress of trying to balance work/family/personal life, difficult transitions and the challenges of daily life. Balance can be difficult to maintain resulting in various negative impacts like depression, anxiety, difficulty at work, and negative effects on relationships. Sometimes, the more successful you are, the more difficult it is to manage all that comes your way. I enjoy working with individuals, executives and couples who strive to succeed in professional and personal life by learning to better balance in each area, building new skills and equipping them to break negative patterns to succeed.

Sometimes, a family or systems approach, where a family member(s) is included, allows for healing that is often more difficult when navigating an issue alone.
Lonely, anxious, depressed, frustrated, angry, confused? Psychotherapy can be an important step toward seeking change, resolving issues and focusing on personal growth. Each person who begins therapy has different needs and goals making the therapeutic relationship unique. Life brings challenges, obstacles and burdens that can cause many feelings and emotions; sometimes paralyzing us towards a direction. Therapy is not a mystery but rather a process where healing is facilitated in a caring environment.

I am a passionate therapist with a love for working with children, adolescents and young adults. My goal in therapy is to help clients find their identity even with a new diagnosis and to teach them that they don't have to be controlled by their symptoms. Therapy is a wonderful resource if you are feeling lost, confused, unheard, defeated, worthless, hopeless or just stuck in life. Through therapy, I work not only with the client but also the family in order to find a resolution to problematic behaviors or improve overall parenting and communication skills with children.

I commonly address concerns, such as, but not limited to, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, ADHD, family & life transitions, challenges stemming from early childhood, spirituality, and grief & loss.
Sometimes, it's overwhelming trying to 'keep up' or 'fix' things on your own. Maybe you don't know exactly what you need, but you know you want to feel better. There may be things from your past that you have tried to move past, but they just keep creeping up again. I strive to come alongside individuals and families of all ages to help them overcome challenges, find meaning and joy in life, experience renewed strength, find true hope, and become mentally and emotionally healthy individuals. My core methods are evidence based and I keep a wholistic perspective- recognizing people as physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual beings.

Treatment plans are change and goal oriented based on the aspirations and motivations of the individual/family.
I am a Licensed, Psychologist (Clinical) with over twenty-five years of experience in treating individuals with various problems in living. It is clear that each client's problems are unique and deserve personal and careful assessment. Subsequent treatment should be supportive and paced accordingly. Clients present because they want something to change and this is the goal of most therapy. It is particularly important to take the mystery out of mental health and this is always achieved.

Counseling and coaching can provide us with new perspectives and tools to help us address life's challenges/obstacles more effectively and constructively. Together we work through seemingly impossible impasses to a deeper, more stable sense of well-being, internally and inter-personally. Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
