Collaboratively, we will work together using trauma resolution and various other therapeutic approaches, to identify healthy goals and equip you with the necessary skills to find relief from your emotional pain and recover from traumatic conditions, and the tools to choose healing.
Life can be full of challenges that may deprive you of your serenity. Are you in need of relief from emotions or relationships that are intense or emotionally painful? Maybe you're constantly in disagreement with your partner, and can't figure out why. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, difficult memories, disordered eating, or dealing with the impact of a challenging past? Are you in recovery and finding it hard to navigate the challenges of early sobriety, like guilt and shame, or the pressured fear of letting others down? Whatever your stressors, you too can experience peace and live a productive life.

My experience includes working within the military community, LGBTQ individuals and victims of trauma.
Our experiences have a profound impact on how we perceive things. This perception can be our greatest challenge resulting in an imbalance in our lives. As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe and compassionate environment to support clients in processing issues that are having an impact on their lives. Utilizing therapeutic techniques that fit their needs, I assist the client in gaining clearer personal insight thus paving the way for positive change.

I am a trauma-focused therapist.
Life happens. Sometimes the things we experience in life are a bit too much to handle on our own, a bit too personal to talk to friends about, and a bit too complicated to rely on self-help gurus. That’s where I come into the picture! My goal is help you work through issues that may be hindering you, your child/teen, or your family. Whether anxiety, depression, trauma, family issues, child/teen struggles, I would love to help get things back on track.

I use a variety of practices to fit a client's needs, adapting both directive and non-directive client centered techniques tailored to fit a client's unique need for emotional regulation and coping skills to help navigate the world and heal from past trauma.
Is your child neurodivergent and having a difficult time adapting to the world around him/her? Does your child become easily overwhelmed, overstimulated, or become frequently dysregulated, leading to emotional outbursts? With such a high demand for children and teenagers in schools and the presence of social media, neurodivergents are more often getting left behind.

I focused all my efforts on being a trauma-informed therapist and sought diverse populations to increase my skill set.
My name is Carrie Allen (she/her), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I graduated with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2016. Being a therapist is my first career, and I cannot see myself doing anything else. "Trauma is personal. It does not disappear if it is not validated. When it is ignored or invalidated, the silent screams continue internally," by Danielle Bernock. Trauma creates feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, of shame and guilt, and of being so lost in the darkness that it feels like there is no end and no way out. I work with you to find hope and self-compassion.

So many things in our lives have roots in trauma and those experiences color the decisions we make as adults.
I appreciate how much anxiety and stress goes into finding a therapist. It is hard from just a picture to decide who you trust with your most personal thoughts. I will do my best to make you feel comfortable and earn your trust. This is your time so let's make the best of it.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
