I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because I enjoy processing with individuals and listening to personal journeys to find a resolution. I was a High School performance art major and find this skill set benefical in providing supports through visual cues using various therapeutic approaches and modalities. I specialize in working with children and families in child welfare. I enjoy working with young children and teens as these are challenging developmental years, trauma and distress from systemic and familial patterns of behaviors, coupled with low parenting, coping, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

I provide creative, gender-affirming therapy for queer and trans clients, as well as short-term solution focused therapy for partners and family members to process a loved one’s coming out. Clients come to me for a lot of reasons— they’re questioning their gender identity, struggling with the coming out process, or looking to learn more about how to support someone they love. Sometimes they have past traumas that are getting in the way of feeling secure, safe, and authentic. Or they want some strategies for managing anxiety or depression. No matter what brings you here, welcome.

Using a contemporary psychodynamically-oriented approach, I work with those struggling with relationship and family issues, parenting difficulties, divorce, trauma, unresolved grief, loss, anxiety and depression, among other issues.
I think as human beings we want to feel seen, heard, appreciated, respected, loved, and valued. I believe most of us want to make a difference in the lives of those around us, our loved ones, friends and community. Making a difference and enjoying healthy and gratifying relationships and contributing to one's community can take many forms but they all involve relationships. If you find yourself feeling deeply unhappy, confused and dissatisfied in any of your relationships, I'd like to learn more about you and what you are seeking in your life and in your relationships.

I apply a number of theoretical methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Theory in my practice to best meet my client' individual needs.
There is a need within each of us to thrive and overcome internal conflict. However, due to stress, crises, and lack of insight, we are not always capable of achieving this on our own. Whether these barriers are a result of early experiences or responses to situational crises, I am available to assist those in need. I help individuals address roadblocks on their way to achieving rewarding and fulfilling lives. Seeking counseling can be intimidating; it asks you to look into yourself and admit your weaknesses.

Does it feel like it has been a while since someone listened and understood you? If your answer is yes to these questions, then counseling might be for you. There is a misconception that counseling is only for wealthy individuals or severe mental illness, but this could not be further from the truth. Counseling is preventative, supportive and for everyone. If you are struggling with family issues, anxiety, depression, trauma and in need of support, then as a counselor I would like to work with you.

Every family and individual has their own unique set of issues that sometimes seem more divisive than cohesive.
Do you regularly find that the demands in your life make you feel caught - or hooked - in imperfect situations? Do you want to improve the relationships in your life? Improve your physical and mental health and develop meaningful relationships with your family. Most of us do, but sometimes, our day-to-day actions don't align with these intentions and goals. Rather than remaining trapped by your circumstances, patterns and thoughts, isn't it time to move forward and take action?

Many of us today are finding life’s challenges overwhelming, and may be feeling unsettled and anxious, or down and depressed. We may feel that our relationships are suffering, or that our deeper traumas have been triggered, making it difficult to cope.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
