Here I offer individual, couples, and family counseling services to help to better "the mind".
I believe in individualized services. The word counseling or therapy is a broad term but when it is focused on the person and what they want to change and/or accomplish, it is a powerful tool! If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, and other negative feelings or just having a difficult time navigating through daily activities, you are not alone. I am here to help!

Life can be overwhelming. Stress from relationships, work, school, family and health issues can be paralyzing at times. Friends and family can listen but often don’t know how to help. Large numbers of people silently carry the scars from childhood trauma and traumatic experiences in adulthood. Some wonder how they can get their lives back on track after the loss of a relationship, a financial setback, or decisions that they regret.

Although our title can be misleading, Marriage and Family Therapists are trained and equipped to work with any combination of clients, including individuals, couples, and full family units. We hold a core belief that many issues in life are influenced by relational dynamics. At each client’s desired pace, addressing those dynamics directly can present an opportunity for deeper understanding, connection, and improved interaction with the people who mean the most to them. This, in turn, can allow those relationships to become a place of refuge from the stresses of life, rather than being yet another stressor in and of themselves.

I consider childhood issues, attachment to family of origin and past or current trauma as important issues to explore in the context of a therapeutic relationship.
Are you suffering from the effects of past trauma? Do you get triggered in otherwise neutral situations or repeat negative behavior patterns? Do you find yourself unhappy and unsatisfied, while those around you seem to be prospering? This may be connected to your past experiences. Perhaps it's time to explore this. This mental health practice centers on healing from the aftermath of trauma, and exploring ways your childhood influences you as an adult. We can process past trauma or focus on here and now with a goal of feeling less sadness and less fear. Maybe now is the time. Video sessions available for in GA,TX, MD, and WA State.

Waitlist for new clients
I believe that every client is unique and should be treated as such. My goal is to focus on my client's individual needs and create a treatment plan to cater to those needs. This is a collaborative process where the client will be encouraged to be a part of their own treatment. After all, you are the expert on your life! As a person-centered therapist, I view the therapeutic relationship as the most important aspect of treatment. Once that relationship is established, I assess the client's needs to determine what interventions will help them reach their full potential.

Though trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, my humanistic background is the foundation for my belief that true healing occurs within relationships. Because I value the power of relationship, I want you to know that I have personally experienced hard things too. My own experiences with anxiety, loss and trauma all contribute to my caring, compassionate and personalized approach in therapy. I also believe that every behavior has a purpose and a payoff. If we can understand what drives the behavior, then we can begin work on strategies that will develop new skills to help you.

I embrace the belief that every client contains, deeply within their own subconscious mind, the key to their own healing and well-being. The answers are never out there, but instead are inside you waiting to be discovered. I am deeply committed to the path of the heart and I feel privileged to be a part of each individual’s process of healing, which I consider to be a sacred task. I believe we all have the power to heal, no matter how deep our wounds may be!

As a therapist, my goal is for you to leave each session feeling like you accomplished something. Change is hard and therapy can be scary. Let me help. From the wise words of Shannon L. Alder, "Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life."

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
