My clients often feel like they're too much: too scared, too anxious, too angry, too sad, too weird, too quiet, too loud, too bad, and even too good. Whether something big and traumatic happened to make you feel "off" or you just got born this way, we work together to explore it, accept it, and do something you feel good about with it. My goal is to help clients find the way to be most themselves in the world so that they feel confident enough to learn new behaviors and different ways of connecting for successful relationships with themselves and others.

My ideal clients are couples and individuals with desire to improve their relationships, in an intimate partner setting or with family members. Change can often be difficult and uncomfortable. It is much easier when there is willingness to be reflective and gain insight from another's perspective. There are tools to improve your communication and manage conflict productively. Oftentimes we are too close to the issues that we may not be able to a clear direction to the goals we want to achieve.

It may feel like parts of you are broken or you hurt so deeply and nothing seems to heal the wounds. But you know you want more for yourself, for your relationships, and you want to take that next step towards healing. You may find you are struggling with anxiety, depression, you feel “stuck”, your relationships are challenged, your body feels tense and stressed, or you can’t quite understand why things feel out of sorts. You want to heal, but you don't know where to begin. I want you to know you are not alone, you are not too broken to heal, and you are worthy of living in a body and environment that is calm and enjoyable.

Does your child, age 10 or under, need help connecting to themselves and others healthily? Do they need to heal trauma/exposure to conflict/violence? Do they need improved emotional regulation skills? To replace self-harm with self-nurture. I help children heal, grieve, and grow. My focus is on assisting children in developing a healthy sense of self and experiencing their power cooperatively (rather than competitively). Sometimes, I work with parents to help them heal their own childhood trauma and be emotionally available to their children. Other times, I work with families to uncover and change dysfunctional patterns.

Does it ever feel like you can talk and talk but it doesn’t lead to lasting change? While some types of therapy focus on gaining insight by analyzing the endless stories that run through your head, a growing body of research shows that effective therapy needs to include the mind and the body.

Navigating through life can be brutal at times. The price of admission on this journey is often great pain, deep loss, and profound confusion, and many of us believe the measure of strength is how much of it we can navigate alone. But connection and support are often the greatest access points to healing. So our work together will be centered around more compassion and less comparison, more acceptance and less fixing, and more normalizing and less shame. I hope to help create peace within your relationships, encourage empowerment in your choices and gently guide you back home to yourself.

You deserve a relationship that feels good. If you’re here, you may be feeling frustrated, exhausted, or even hopeless about yours. You’re longing for better communication, increased trust, and a deeper connection, though you’re at a loss over how to get there. You keep dancing the same dance, but you’re more than ready to change the tempo. I get it. And I’m here to tell you that there is help (and hope) for your relationship.

Being hurt is a part of life. None of us are free of pain. Sometimes, the troubles of life, the losses you have experienced, the pain and hurt other people have caused, your fears about the future, and your regrets about your past create a life of torment. By taking responsibility for your life, accepting, and allowing what happens to you rather than resisting the pain, you can move forward with your life. You are worthy to live your life with joy, love, clarity, and dignity. Let me be your friend and fellow traveler on your journey.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
