I work with individuals who come to therapy for a variety of reasons, including OCD, depression, anxiety, phobias, life transitions, and stress. I also provide gender affirming care for individuals 12 and older who are at various stages in their gender journey. I am affirming of poly relationship structures, and have significant experience and training in navigating gender identity exploration/transition, as well as sexual and racial identity development. I write letters of support for gender affirming surgery, and can typically get folks in within a week. I also provide ADHD testing and diagnostic assessments for folks 12 and up.

I specialize in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders (trauma, panic, health, social, generalized, and phobias).
If anxiety and fear have more control over your life than you do, you are not alone. Living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder's relentless-intrusive thoughts, scary images, paralyzing anxiety, and mental and health-related fears is exhausting. If you support a loved one suffering from OCD and anxiety, it can be just as painful. I help clients gain a better understanding of what is happening, reduce unwanted symptoms like anxiety, fear, and shame, and teach helpful tools and coping skills to manage all of it.

I help stressed, perfectionistic students and professionals learn how to relax. Too much self-control, or overcontrol, makes it hard to enjoy life and connect meaningfully with others. It’s exhausting to feel like you’re always ‘on’, performing, or wearing a mask. Overcontrol can lead to problems like anxiety, depression, disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, and intimacy avoidance. You don’t have to struggle alone–I’ve been a therapist working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and other overcontrolled folks for over 10 years. Together, we can get you unstuck and harness your self-control as a strength.

I have vast knowledge in working with clients with general anxiety, social anxiety, and OCD.
Sometimes life gets hard and we just want someone to listen and help guide us through in the healthiest and safest way possible. I am a psychotherapist who has done just that for many clients in the 15 plus years I have been in practice. My first priority is to help you feel safe and comfortable in working with me. I am an eclectic therapist that uses different techniques and modalities because I believe every client’s needs are individualized. I am a laid-back therapist that can bring humor into session when appropriate but I am also able to be direct in what I see and what I feel the best treatment needs are.

I have ten years of training and experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.
We all want a life of peace and ease; however, normal life includes challenges and struggles with painful experiences. Fortunately, contemporary, science-based mental health interventions help people reduce suffering and live life with freedom and flexibility (and maybe some fun). I can help you identify personal values, develop unique strengths, build coping skills, and experiment with behavior changes. Our work together will help connect you with who and what you most care about and help you build a meaningful and active life.

My clients are often teens, young women and couples who are navigating depression, anxiety, OCD, disordered eating, or self-destructive cycles of behavior.
You’ve been trying to do this alone, and you’re tired of trying. These days, your emotions feel like a minefield – where harsh words, unexpected obstacles or even "good" days can detonate uncontrollable feelings, urges, and actions. When the dust settles, you’re left in a haze of regret and shame. You’ve tried everything to numb out the thoughts and feelings entirely, and over time, other people have been pushed out, too. Alone and confused, you wonder: why does life seem easier for everyone else? Am I unfixable? Does anyone understand what I go through each day?

I have experience helping people address complex trauma, post traumatic stress, relationship concerns, identity exploration, suicidality, self-harm, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and OCD.
I believe that many of our patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving make sense given our context and experiences. I encourage clients to explore both their past and present in order to better understand which patterns work for them and which they’d like to adjust. By collaborating with clients, I help them to identify their strengths and build new skills and insights for managing life’s stressors. I also incorporate mindfulness and movement practices based on client need and interest.

I know choosing a therapist can be difficult. I like to provide an atmosphere that is nurturing and focused on helping you achieve your goals. I enjoy helping people better understand themselves as they move toward change and solve their problems. I do this using therapeutic techniques that are evidenced-based which means these methods have consistently been shown effective through research. I balance kindness with a focus on getting you to where you want to be. My practice includes in-person services in Minnesota, along with the ability to conduct televideo sessions in 32 additional states and territories.

The core of my work is creating a safe space where clients can feel heard, respected, and understood. A full and satisfying life is unique to each person; I will collaborate with you as you move toward the life you want to live. Understanding each client's culture, identities, and worldview is central to my approach. Not only is it important to deeply understand you as an individual, but also to explore how factors in the wider environment either promote your well being or intensify your distress. A holistic approach to wellness involves the individual, their relationships, and their wider world.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
