Whether you had more ups or downs in 2020, it was a trying year for everyone. Perhaps it brought new behaviors out of your children or yourself. Maybe it reminded you of past traumas. Many of us have "big T" Traumas like abuse or near death experiences. All of us have some "little t" traumas like feeling repeatedly rejected by others. Part of us gets stuck back when the no-good-dirty-rotten-thing happened, but you don't have to stay there. You can be free of the grip of both big T and little t traumas. These no longer have to affect you, your child, the way you parent, or a myriad of other things like weight management.

My areas of focus are trauma, depression, PTSD, anxiety, spiritual abuse, shame, LGBTQIA+ issues, and self-esteem.
How are you today? Really, how are you? Browsing these pages can be overwhelming – the unfamiliar words, the multitude of smiling faces. Those smiles can seem insulting in the face of overwhelming depression. Who do you pick? It’s okay to have questions and doubts; it’s okay to pick someone and change your mind once you meet them. My name is Cherise (she/her) and I am an LPC-Associate. This means that I have the education and experience to have a provisional license to counsel, but must do so under supervision. You not only have a qualified therapist, you also have a second, more experienced therapist behind the scenes.

My practice included working with persons with anger management, physical and substance abuse concerns, employment and legal challenges.
As a society, we have grown distant from each other, alone in many phases of life. We experience life situations alone and repeat problematic patterns not knowing how to change or cope. As a psychotherapist I am spiritually based and believe the family is the foundation which supports the healthy development of it's member's. As a clinician I seek to develop therapeutic relationships which prepare the person for change which positively impact their life. For over 20 years I have worked with families, couples, individuals and children in a wide variety of psychological, emotional, behavioral and cognitive challenges.

For the past 10 years, I have worked with at-risk populations from addiction/substance recovery to family violence and sexual assault survivors ranging in ages from adolescents to adults.
Your present circumstances do not determine where you go...they merely determine where you start. — Nido Qubein. Hello! I'm glad you are here. I believe in meeting my clients where they are, providing a safe space to process and learn, and helping them overcome obstacles preventing personal growth. Working through a cognitive-behavioral lens, we will work towards identifying patterns of thoughts and behaviors that do not align with goals for yourself and your relationships.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
