Whether I am working with a child or an adult, my primary goal is to help to create a safe space for them to identify, explore and manage the emotions and behaviors that are impeding their potential for living a healthier and happy life. I have extensive training and experience working with children and adults who have experienced trauma. Though often feeling depleted and unrecognized, I have seen, untapped, and helped to recover incredible strengths in my clients. Much of my work begins with identifying and supporting those strengths in an effort to overcome and heal from the issues that are creating challenges in their lives.

The best psychotherapy builds upon a solid relationship between a client and therapist, allowing the client to take risks in examining themselves, acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses, process painful memories and use their strengths to create change. In my therapeutic work I focus on nurturing that relationship to facilitate my client's change and self-acceptance. I am well trained in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic therapy and family/couples therapy as well as cognitive-behavioral and short term therapy techniques and use what my clients and I believe will best facilitate their goals in treatment.

I am in-network with Aetna, Horizon BCBS, United, Oxford, UMR and Lyra. Grief is deeply personal. In times of loss, you deserve to be seen, heard, and validated no matter what shape or form it comes in. Maybe you recently lost a loved one. The stress of interpersonal relationships or career shifts might be weighing heavy on you. Or perhaps postpartum and adjusting to parenthood is harder than you expected it to be. It may not feel like it right now, but you aren’t alone — therapy is a safe space to share your story.

Feeling overwhelmed with everything you are managing right now? Feeling burned out from stress and life demands? Constantly measuring yourself against others? Do you always prioritize others' needs over your own and wonder who is taking care of you? Are you struggling with your feelings because you "should" feel great? Maybe everything was going great, and then life threw you into a loop. Perhaps these feelings are new. Maybe these are things you have felt for a long time and can't ignore any longer. No one has it all together, and it is exhausting to try to pretend. You deserve more and can break these cycles.

The decision to seek counseling can be a difficult one for many people, and choosing a therapist can be a daunting task. The client and therapist partnership must "work" in order for it to succeed. There must be a connection, an atmosphere of respect, support, trust, and caring - a dedication to the process by both parties. In this way, the search for understanding can bring insight, healing, growth, positive change, and a greater potential for happiness. We never know where within an individual's experience may lie the key to a breakthrough. It's a journey to well being that can begin right now.

Families are important to me, and learning to communicate in a world where technology and careers can disconnect the family—building bonds and relationships, learning to encourage and recognize the positive in others, and rebuilding relationships. To find the importance, look at past trauma individually, explore the impact trauma has on current situations, and heal the trauma to inspire the future and achieve success.

Offering in-person and virtual sessions! I come with a curiosity about attachment and early stages of development. My treatment approach is to help restore connection to yourself and your relationships through psychodynamic and trauma-informed therapies. Many people share how their negative beliefs and emotional discomfort can “feel stuck” in their mind and nervous system. I work with clients to resolve present day problems and longstanding patterns in their lives (anxiety, phobias, PTSD, Depression and so on.) through the integration of mind, body and brain processing techniques.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
