I have experience working with adults who struggle with anxiety, relationship difficulties, depression, substance use, and significant life changes, such as divorce and the birth of a child.
At some point, each of us confronts a difficult life circumstance for which we may want or need extra support. Whether you are experiencing relationship difficulties, increased stress, or the desire to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, I hope to help you navigate these challenges with greater ease and confidence. I strive to cultivate a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment so that together we can better understand the difficulties you are facing, while developing specific coping skills to help improve your overall well-being.

I have over ten years experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
Psychological health is much more than the absence of problems and mental illness. Even when things seem to be going well we may still feel that there is something missing and that our lives lack the happiness, purpose, and vitality that we desire. My approach begins with the identification of your values. This becomes the foundation of our work together. We then explore thoughts and feelings that get in the way of living a more meaningful and satisfying life and replace them with strategies that are more values consistent and effective in the pursuit of a more satisfying life.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a NYS Credentialed Substance Use Counselor. I see adults of all ages in a comfortable, private and safe setting on the Upper West Side. I think dynamically, but work eclectically. I coach behavioral changes while exploring beliefs, reactions and motivations so you understand yourself better and enhance your options in living. I deeply believe that the more we understand ourselves and our motivations, the greater will be our power to take control of things that previously seemed inevitable.

I'm a clinical psychologist at Wholeview Wellness. A group practice in NYC. I am one of several doctors here devoted to providing advanced treatment for mental health and substance use issues. I focus on helping my clients understand why they engage in self-defeating behaviors and why they make choices that don’t fit with their goals and values. With this understanding, we then shift focus to figuring out how to live their life on life's terms and how to use healthier coping strategies. I use various therapeutic interventions including mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

As a licensed mental health counselor, my approach is warm, friendly, and client-centered. I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important part of the therapeutic journey. I pride myself on being able to get a good sense of my clients and who they are individually in order to develop a strong therapeutic alliance. I am empathic and validating, but I am also skilled in challenging unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be getting in the way of living one's best life.

I have worked in social services providing individual and group counseling in New York City for over 15 years. From crisis hotline volunteer to HIV test educator, from substance use counselor to prevention group leader, my work has taught me two important things: no one's life is perfect and everyone's got issues. So why therapy? There are times when you find yourself in the same frustrating or painful situation, or when you just want to make a change but don't know how - therapy can help. With my training and experience, I can help you through these times.

I help adults (18+) manage major life issues/transitions such as depression and anxiety; substance use; medical illness (cancer and HIV); relationships; loss/grief; and job stress.
Hello. Thanks for reading about me. I’m a warm, down to earth psychologist with a passion for helping people. Staying present focused, we will center on keeping your hopes and dreams up front, while reducing distress in the context of a solid and genuine therapeutic relationship. We will work to enhance your understanding of the barriers that are keeping you from achieving your goals and learn skills to turn that understanding into strategies to better overcome them. While there is no quick fix to most problems, I use proven strategies (such as CBT and DBT) that will help you experience relief and progress relatively soon.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
