I specialize in working with the psychological effects of trauma as well as cancer and other medical illnesses.
People often seek therapy when feeling stuck: painfully alienated from what they desire, torn between conflicting impulses, and stuck with a version of themselves they find confusing and dissatisfying. Through careful listening and exploration, our work will help to illuminate how old wounds and ways of surviving have restricted your ability to feel, work, love, and even play freely. Moments of vulnerability in therapy can be opportunities to shut down, or they can be opportunities for introspection and transformation – I pay close attention to each patient’s needs, wishes, and fears to help steer you towards the latter outcome.

I specialize in working with individuals with adult ADHD, anxiety, relationship issues, occupational stress, and developmental trauma.
Understanding that changes are needed in order to live the life you want does not always equate feeling ready to do so, or knowing where to start. If you are feeling as if your emotional bandwidth is compromised by internal conflict or outside stressors, it may be difficult to allow yourself to try something new. As a relational therapist, I cultivate the connection and safety that are needed to help my clients to feel more willing to challenge themselves and their beliefs in the interest of personal growth.

I'm a licensed creative arts therapist and a board-certified music therapist with advanced training in the treatment of complex trauma.
There's a therapeutic movement going on that questions the way our culture pathologizes the self. I believe that what gets diagnosed as mental illness is often understood better as an adaptation to adversity that's no longer helpful.

Our work is trauma informed, culturally sensitive, and mindfulness based.
Have you found that traditional talk therapies have only gotten you so far? Do you feel that you are hitting roadblocks that seem to have no breakthrough? Have you have found that music often moves you in ways that are hard to express in words? If you are looking for concrete tools to help you feel more satisfied, connected to a sense of meaning, and alive, then creative arts therapy may be a powerful treatment.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 13 years of experience treating a wide range of concerns through a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens.
The world we live in is complex, and so are you. Every person is unique, a product of their cultural contexts, family dynamics, lived experiences, temperament, and more. And given this complexity, it is no surprise that many people feel they could use the support of an empathetic and knowledgeable professional in figuring it all out. Therapy can help you make sense of yourself and your life so that you can live according to your values, reduce suffering, and maximize well-being. I utilize psychodynamic as well as mindfulness- and acceptance-based techniques to support clients in reaching these goals.

Additionally, I am trauma certified, so our therapy is informed by current research on the affects, and healing possibilities, after traumatic life experiences.
In individual psychotherapy, we look at how you are currently living and clarify what is working for you and what you want to change. A therapeutic conversation heightens awareness of your feelings, thoughts, sensations and behaviors. With my support, you learn to use your growing awareness as ground for taking experimental steps in new enlivening directions. Our therapy process leads toward resolution, change and growth. I will help you apply what you learn in therapy to your daily life. Our working relationship is important, so the first step is to meet one another. I look forward to meeting you.

I work with adults and college students who experience a wide range of concerns, including trauma, loss/grief, abuse, family conflicts, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, or difficult life transitions.
I hold space for you to let go of expectations placed on you and to get closer to your most authentic and unfiltered self. This is where you rediscover parts of yourself, connect with emotions that you have buried, allow things to get a little “messy," and create meaningful change. I help clients unpack problematic patterns of behavior, manage difficult emotions, and move through pain to find relief.

I am passionate about working with folks who are navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, or interpersonal issues. My goal is to come alongside you as we pursue healing together. This is because I believe every one of us necessitates some additional support when our experiences feel unmanageable; while often difficult to initiate, meeting with someone can be the catalyst for growth.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
