But in the face of trauma, challenges and difficulties, it's common for us to lose sight of our authentic selves or even our abilities to overcome hardships.
In the spirit of honesty and directness, I want to acknowledge that embarking on a journey of therapy can be both scary and transformative. Regardless of your reasons for being here, I want you to know that I am fully committed to supporting you every step of the way. What's it like to work with me, you might be thinking? Well, you can expect to feel truly seen, valued, and safe in our therapeutic space. I take into consideration all aspects of who you are as a person, not just specific symptoms or issues.

Maintaining our mental health requires a holistic approach. One that includes taking care of not only our mind but our body as a whole. That is why I treat my clients using a combination of talk therapy, body-based methods, mindfulness and naturopathic guidance. When healing trauma, simply putting things into words is not sufficient and could in fact be triggering. For this reason, I employ a Somatic Experiencing method to help clients safely access and work through their emotions and traumas stored in their muscle memory, which promotes healing of a wide range of conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and childhood abuse.

I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, with issues of trauma, depression, anxiety, creative blocks, acculturation, and chronic illness.
Are you struggling with barriers (whether past or present) to creating the life you want? Have you been talking to therapists over the years with little change? Or have the feeling that your words are covering over rather than opening up? I work with adults from an expressive point of view. My focus is on helping you to find a sense of order and meaning from inner chaos. Together we will explore what has gone on in your life, where you want to go, and what is keeping you from doing this with ease. I welcome the opportunity to accompany you, support, and respectfully witness your process.

I provide traditional talk therapy and art therapy. Oftentimes it can be difficult to discern what exactly we are feeling, but I find that recognizing the way emotions present themselves in our bodies can help anchor our understanding and process confusing experiences. Sometimes feelings can be so overwhelming that the idea of putting them into words feels impossible, but through therapy we can do it together. I work through a trauma-informed lens and focus on collaboratively fostering a sense of safety, empowerment, human connection, and a sense of agency.

Do you feel that past experiences have created trauma that thwart your efforts to live a truly fulfilled and happy life? Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions, and shame, which can often be connected to relational, developmental, and intergenerational traumas and family of origin histories. They seek help in how to break unwanted cycles of internal conflict, self-doubt, and unhealthy relationship patterns, toward a more realized and happy life. Many have found talk therapy to be helpful, but have not been able to access deeper layers of experience that lie at the root of their struggles.

Looking for a therapist, and particularly a queer and trans affirming therapist, can be a difficult and often complex process. We want someone who will understand our needs and our background, help us grow and develop new skills, and will support us in making sense of something that remains unsettling, perhaps years after a trauma or thought pattern first emerged.

I often find myself working with individuals who have experienced trauma, family of origin wounds, and attachment trauma.
You and I work together to bring attention and understanding to complexities of who you are and what you've learned to endure and exist around. Often this looks like exploring trauma but also it can look like exploring the defense mechanism or shame that are in the way of communicating, living, and connecting in the most sincere, genuine, and joyful ways you can. Sometimes we know whats wrong, sometimes we have no idea, but ultimately what matters most is the relationship that you and I build and the trust that we form. Our job is to identify and extrapolate the unhelpful or defensive patterns that are keeping you feeling

My mission is to guide people through loss and trauma toward acceptance and healing. Therapy isn't a space where we "fix ourselves," but rather where we find ourselves in our pain and discover how strong we are in the process. Going to therapy is self-empowerment. It means making a conscious decision to start exploring and accepting all parts of self so that you can feel empowered to live your best life. As a clinician, I meet each client where they are, honor their individuality and unique life experience, and co-create a space where they can feel—and heal—trauma, loss, and grief.

I focus on working with queer clients grappling with family trauma and issues of identity, particularly those with an interest in performing and creative arts, or in addressing the role of spirituality and energy work in their healing processes.
I believe in therapy as a way to understand our pasts and move forward in the present—a powerful tool in navigating transitions, staying rooted, and expressing our creative selves. I have a Bachelors and Masters in music/opera, a Masters in social work from Columbia University, and am a certified yoga teacher.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
