I'm a results-oriented, solution-focused psychologist who, over 25 years in practice, have honed my own active, directive therapeutic approach to deliver results in a time-efficient, step-wise manner. After an initial chronological overview, in which we track the origins and development of your presenting symptoms/challenges, we establish clear, achievable goals and map out steps for reaching these goals. Utilizing goal-focused, cognitive-behavioral techniques, I’ll guide and assist you in identifying and overcoming past hindrances to meeting your desired goals, and provide you with skills for maintaining your achieved goals.

I am a therapist/drug counselor/dating coach that is warm and caring. I start with developing an authentic relationship, then proceed to processing your feelings and thoughts with added behavioral tools. Helping you feel accepted, understood, and supported so we can explore and organize experiences and create new ways of coping. My practice is focused on treating young adults who may be facing challenges in their personal, social, or dating life. Therapy is one way of helping yourself not only with discovering the root causes of your behavior, but also to identify one's truth and inner reality.

The potential for self-improvement and positive growth starts with our willingness to open ourselves to new possibilities. Certain life events sometimes lead us to seek professional help and finding the right therapist you can establish a positive rapport can be challenging. One of the unique attributes that clients say about me is the warmth, gentleness and genuineness of our therapeutic process coupled with an inviting approach to wellness. I believe a significant core element of counseling is the relationship that you and I build as we navigate and explore the challenges that limit or prevent you from meeting your personal objectives.

Have feelings of uncertainty and stress impacted your ability to be present in everyday life? Are you often criticizing yourself and worrying about what others think? Maybe you have experiences of trauma that leave you feeling unmotivated, isolated, and disconnected from your authentic self. You deserve the opportunity to prioritize your well-being and break free from the cycle of negative self-talk. Reaching out for support is an incredibly courageous step. Using a client-centered, trauma-informed approach, I aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where you can gain deeper insights.

I treat a wide spectrum of conditions including mood and anxiety disorders (e.g., bipolar and depressive disorders, panic and phobias), ADHD, marital issues and PTSD. My niche is in personality disorders (e.g., borderline and narcissistic personality disorder). I have extensive experience treating trauma sequelas, dissociative disorders and helping individuals overcome grief. My practice also includes treatment of eating disorders in adults (e.g., bulimia) and parasuicidal behaviour. Although my practice is mainly guided by empirical modalities, I tend to approach each client in an eclectic manner to customize treatment as needed.

People often reach out with a range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, addiction, eating disorders, career concerns, and the challenges of navigating life transitions. Whatever the specific issue, clients often share a common goal: to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they’re struggling with, to challenge and replace patterns of thought and behavior that are not serving them, and to learn helpful coping skills to manage stressors in healthy and productive ways. Ultimately, my clients frequently aspire to cultivate a life of fulfillment, authenticity, and peace.

If you are reading this you may have come to a point in your life where you are seeking more support and guidance. So much of life we go at it alone; never speaking up on behalf of our wants and needs. Therapy can change this. Our work together may begin by defining your goals in therapy and how we can achieve them together, but it will grow to include more excitement and a greater sense of well being for you.

Are you wondering if your drug or alcohol use is becoming a problem? Do you know it is a problem, but cannot seem to control it? Maybe you engage in a different sort of self-sabotaging behavior, such as binge-eating, compulsive spending or undermining your success at work. Self-sabotaging behaviors, including drug and alcohol misuse, are actions we choose but they feel automatic and inescapable. Often, they serve to maintain status quos, prevent growth, and imprison us in unhappy situations. I understand the pain and hopelessness that comes from repeating the same mistakes. It is never too late to change a limiting pattern.

Drug Abuse Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
