Since earning my MSW from Monmouth University, I have worked in various capacities within emergency room psychiatric services, suicide prevention, research, and outpatient counseling, enabling me to gain experience working with individuals having a wide variety of issues including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, substance abuse, personality disorders, and mood disorders. Through my work in several emergency room settings and outpatient care centers, I have familiarity treating diverse populations, including children, adults, families, LGBTQIA+, and individuals involved in the legal system.

I am an eclectic therapist well suited to treating adult and adolescents impacted by substance abuse and mood disorders. I have extensive experience engaging, individuals with co-occurring disorders. Heather McCooey has experience working with adults with a variety of acute and chronic behavioral health issues such as- anxiety, depression and mood disorders as well as drug and alcohol use disorders and the impacts of these illnesses on families and loved ones. Ms. McCooey provides individual, family and group counseling to adults using cognitive behavioral, motivational and person centered therapies. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Infant Mental Health Expert (IMH-E), and EMDR Certified Therapist (EMDRIA) with a bachelor's degree from Muhlenberg College in psychology. I also hold dual master's degrees in clinical psychology from LaSalle University and The New School for Social Research. I'm currently in the final stages of completing my Ph.D. in psychology at Fielding Graduate University. I like to use a variety of therapeutic techniques that focus on empathy and genuineness to make each one of my clients feel supported and heard.
