I really believe in the relationship between a therapist and a client is one of the most important elements in a client's success. Regardless of the issue, therapy is a wonderful tool for a variety of life’s issues. Each client will present with their unique issues and therapy should be tailored to each client individually. I work with clients who experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. Clients who want to change their violent or aggressive behaviors or problematic sexual behaviors but are unclear on the path. I want to help clients work on emotional regulation and enjoying the present moment.

Imagine someone deeply gripped by addiction, feeling overwhelmed and desperate for a way out. Physically, they suffer from symptoms like insomnia, fatigue, and malnutrition due to substance abuse. Emotionally, they're trapped in shame, guilt, and despair, straining relationships and damaging their self-worth. Mentally, cravings dominate their thoughts, leaving little room for anything else. Spiritually, they feel disconnected and purposeless, sinking deeper into isolation and despair. If this scenario is playing out in your life, it may be the right time to call. I will offer you a safe non-judgemental space to discuss these issues.

Substance use issues, burn-out, grief & loss along with the kissing cousins of anxiety & depression are areas I have my own high level of confidence in; this is territory I know well.
You’ve got a career or life that is high pressure with equal doses of risk & reward. Or maybe you’ve just lost someone or something that you had counted on in the past & the loss stings like a hornet caught under your glove. Without too much warning you’ve found yourself seeking to find center again, heal the exhaustion & find a new way forward. The directional sign you’re looking for is hidden. Asking for help, getting a second set of hands in on the job feels a bit intimidating since you’re so good at what you do. Then again, that feeling of not wanting to stay where you are is strong. It’s time to move in a new direction.

I also work with family members, family systems, and loved ones of people who are struggling with substance use.
Going through life feeling misunderstood, disconnected from others, uncomfortable in your skin, and that the world isn’t to be trusted can be a lonely and frightening endeavor. Using drugs and or alcohol may seem to be the only real relief. Everyone has two sides to them, one believing nothing will ever change and another hoping for a better way. I provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore the negative self-talk and inner critic that prevents you from being your authentic self, leading you to use substances to cope.

As a mental health and substance abuse professional, I see clients/ family members of individuals who may be in active addiction, in recovery or those seeking recovery.
Everyone is subject to facing challenges in life, some more difficult than others. It's common to need extra support during these times, it can often bring us comfort, reassurance and clarity. Remembering that we are strong, resilient and that we hold our own solutions can be empowering and provide confidence. When faced with mental health related symptoms, addictions issues or family addiction issues, it's easy to become overwhelmed and forget what we need to do to take care of ourselves. Seeking therapy is a brave and decisive way to provide self care. We are often more kind to others than we are to ourselves, prioritize you.

I have 30 years of personal and professional experience navigating the landscape of addiction and creating meaningful change when it doesn't seem possible.
Welcome to a new beginning. Asking for help is both difficult and empowering after you've lost the belief that things can change. The fact that you are reading this means you are ready to take the first step to make some changes in your life. I strive to empower individuals who have lost their way due to the challenges and obstacles created by addiction. Addiction doesn't happen on it's own. There are many layers and at times things become complicated or unclear. We will work together to uncover the false beliefs, support new practices, and begin a new way of life. It all begins now, as you take the first step.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
