Life brings many stressors, and we could all benefit from a safe and supportive place to sort out our feelings and process our concerns. In counseling, I aim to provide my clients with a warm and non-judgmental space to be truly heard so that they can feel free to communicate openly and authentically. I use a person-centered and collaborative approach, providing clients with the opportunity to identify and clarify their own goals, gifts, and qualities. I have experience with an array of clients from adolescents to adults, and focus on issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image issues, and self-esteem.

Even the Courageous Can Hurt! You are on this page, most likely, because you are hurting. Perhaps you suffered a loss, or are at a loss, anxious, depressed or confused by the direction your life is taking. Maybe your pain is due to your own choices or actions. Perhaps it is caused by the choices and actions of others. Sometimes things just happen. Seeking help means you are taking responsibility for your happiness and well-being. That is the first step in healing and it is courageous. We recognize that you are in pain and provide an environment where you feel safe to peel away the layers of your hurt.

I specialize in depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, family and relationship issues, self -care.
We all want to be healthier versions of ourselves and improve our overall wellbeing. Most of the time we tend to concentrate only on focusing on our physical health. While this is important it's not the only component of well-being we should be improving. To achieve lasting health we need to understand the importance of the body, mind and soul and how they work together to build our overall wellbeing. A healthy body keeps you well and active, a healthy mind keeps you focused and engaged, a healthy soul keeps you fulfilled and content.

Though I work with a variety of clients, I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with OCD, anxiety, and eating disorders, to name a few.
Reaching out for help during our vulnerable moments can be overwhelming and intimidating. Sometimes we can convince ourselves that we should figure it out on our own or that things aren't bad enough to need help and we can find ourselves reluctant to take that next step. Regardless of where you are on your healing journey, I will meet you there and join beside you to work through the things that feel unbearable and impossible to overcome on your own.

Starting therapy can be daunting. People often seek a therapist because they are experiencing distress of some kind. This distress can take many shapes: anxiety, grief, difficulty moving through a big life event, coping with a chronic medical or mental health condition, relationship issues, workplace stress and burnout, isolation. My approach to therapy involves creating a safe and supportive space to look at and learn from this distress. This may involve finding patterns that have kept you struggling, healing from past harms, and exploring and expanding your existing strengths.

I believe that with the right therapist, you can express yourself freely without fear of judgement and receive the support you need and desire. I love helping clients build skills to manage feelings, address anxiety and fear of failure, and feel empowered to grow and change habits. I specialize in aiding clients with self-regulation, managing relationship challenges, developing better routines and implementing boundaries.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
