I offer techniques such as trauma-focused CBT, art, and play, adjusted to your family’s needs.
Society tells us that being a parent is a special gift. We’re supposed to love every minute of it, be nearly perfect, and never get impatient. That sounds ideal, but the truth is that parenting is hard. Being a kid is hard. I challenge you to find a parent who has never lost their temper, or a child who never complains! And when we do get it right we don’t usually get much recognition. That’s the difficult news. The good news is that parents and children can learn to have stronger connections, more fun together, and actually look forward to their time as a family. You may just need more support, education, and the tools to do it.

Are you experiencing higher levels of anxiety or stress? Do you feel frustrated and stuck? Do you want change but don't know what kind of change or how to get there? Are you going through a life transition? Do you question whether your life can have more meaning? Or maybe you find yourself repeating the same pattern over and over and don’t know how to change it?

I utilize expressive and creative modalities like play and art in addition to more traditional modalities based on your needs, comfort, and developmental needs.
Welcome! Do you feel your child would benefit from a space to process their feelings and learn new skills? Are you in need of an empathetic and understanding ear to help you understand your family more fully? Are you in need of a space for yourself to navigate the messiness of life and engage in self exploration? I aim to provide a space where you, your child, or your family can feel and be human without judgement. I aim to work collaboratively and creatively to work through the barriers that exist with traditional therapeutic approaches. In my 6 years of practice working with many different people with a large variety of diagnoses, I have come to individualize treatment utilizing a variety of techniques including talk-therapy, non-verbal therapies (EMDR), and art-based techniques.
Life has a way of throwing challenges at us when we least expect it. At times we can easily overcome the barriers but for the other times we may need to reach out for support. Therapy can offer a safe, non-judgmental place to help us decrease emotional stress, better understand our past, and help us to develop tools to move forward. I'm a licensed Creative Arts Therapist with 6 years of clinical experience and specialize in the treatment of trauma, depression, anxiety and stress, LGBTQIA+ issues, identity and self-exploration. I strive to be genuine, developing positive relationships so I can be a partner in your healing process.

Unlike other providers, I work in an art studio and encourage clients to use art making within session.
As people, we often find ourselves feeling confined by the beliefs of friends, family, and society. It can be paralyzing trying to meet what are often conflicting expectations, leaving us with chronic feelings of anxiety, stress, and shame. It can feel as if you are compromising your true self to please other people, struggling to balance what you want for yourself and what others ask of you. Thinking about the person that you want to be can be stressful, but self-discovery is a crucial step towards leading a more fulfilled life.

If we get stuck, art and writing may be utilized.
Do you struggle with an anxiety that affects your relationships, work, and day to day ability to function? Do you feel frustrated and overwhelmed by the thought of going to work or setting boundaries? Do you wonder if life should feel better? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it can get better.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
