What happens to intelligence, talent, passion and potential without direction or guidance? Typically not much.... What happens when these same qualities are cultivated and partnered with caring guidance and development? People can achieve their potential! They can have richer, more satisfying lives. I actively work to encourage, motivate, and challenge individuals and families to explore themselves and each other. Through this discovery, together we process and heal, leaving room for growth and development.

We all have times when we need someone to listen to us without judgement and help us to find our own answers. I can help you address issues with food, alcohol and other unhealthy cycles of behavior that are causing you stress. Feelings of depression, anxiety & shame can be overwhelming for someone struggling with addiction. Self-esteem and relationships are greatly impacted. Family and friends can feel confused and helpless when a loved one is hurting & communication is often strained. Learning to manage your emotions with greater insight and improved coping skills will allow for a more balanced life for you and your loved ones.

I work with individuals, couples, children, and their families who are struggling with transitional life changes, anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem, relationship issues, parenting, and trauma. I also work with clients dealing with abandonment and issues that they have due to childhood and recent traumas, including grief and loss issues and transition. I was born in Haiti and moved to the U.S when I was 12 years old, so I have a clear understanding of the struggles of transition and adaptation.

I help adults recover from a variety of mental health conditions and stressors in order to pursue a sense of purpose and meaningful relationships, as well as interests through talk therapy and evidence-based treatments. While some clients have been prescribed medication to help, human beings are comprised of a complex array of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions that often get overlooked when focusing on a medication only approach to treatment. At Vitamin P Therapy, I believe in treating the whole person and fueling the body and mind with additional ‘vitamins’ that are essential for optimal growth and functioning.

Finding the right therapist is an important step in your healing process. I believe people possess more strength and resilience than they realize and my passion is assisting with that realization. My areas of focus include life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, depression, anxiety and addiction. You will be met with compassion and understanding while we work together to address the issues preventing you from reaching your fullest potential. We will create goals and develop strategies and coping skills to reach them. I have gained insight by earning certifications in Reiki (level 1 and 2) and Transcendental Meditation.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
