As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I find that lasting change comes through self understanding. As a psychodynamically oriented therapist with forty years of experience treating individuals, couples, and families, I have a passion for my work and a capacity to engage well even with difficult and challenging clients. In addition to people experiencing anxiety, depression and other problems associated with daily living, I have expertise working with individuals and families struggling with PTSD, dissociative disorders, bipolar disorders, and dual diagnoses of substance abuse and mental health problems. Trauma can make you feel alone and misunderstood. You might feel like there is no one you can talk to because you don't want to cause them pain. You try to smile and carry on but this too has stopped working. Maybe you are angry, maybe you are afraid. I get that. Maybe you just want it all to stop and go back to the way it used to be. I get that too. Trauma can be a big event or reoccurring smaller events (micro-traumas). Even relationships can feel traumatic.

The calling to be a professional helper is filled with challenges that can throw us off balance. While we support others, we still have our own dreams and concerns. We all need a safe place to step out of the role of "helper" and be real about what we're facing. Yet when we spend all our time supporting others, it can be hard to find someone appropriate for us to turn to.
