Maria is dedicated to staying at the forefront of education in the constantly developing field of mental health. Maria started her career started in early childhood education, where her passion for working with children and families directed her to grow expertise in other areas. Then, as a counselor for the incarcerated population working for the Oakland Sheriff's Department, she was an acting subject matter expert for violence, substance abuse, impulse control, depressive and suicidal ideation, and schizoaffective disorders. Maria received a Bachelor's in Psychology from UC Davis and Master's in Counseling from Oakland University.

I have worked with children,teenagers and adults for over 30 years. I provide a warm, friendly, and "human" environment for clients and their families within which we can work together to address the concerns and problems that are creating problems in everyday life. In today's environment, there are so many pressures on kids and their parents...school, friends, finances, jobs...and sometimes it seems overwhelming. Together we can find some solutions to make coping with life's stresses easier and more productive. Communication is a key factor, as well as developing strategies that help in managing those difficult situations.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages - from young children thru to seniors. I received my early education in private parochial schools in India, and obtained a Masters in Child Development and Family Relationships. I taught undergraduate students in my university before moving to the U.S. where I obtained my Masters in Education. Following my desire to help others, I attended Wayne State University where I obtained my Masters in Clinical Social Work.
