Derwin D. Harris, Ed.D, LCSW, CSAC is a License Clinical Social Worker who specializes in mental health and substance abuse intervention that assist client experiencing co-occurring issues. My philosophy is to meet the client where he/she is and allow the individual to explore the direction he/she wants to go. Over the years, I have found that the client centered approach has proven to be effective by allowing the client to take ownership of his/her issue and to determine how it should be resolved. Through collaboration, psycho-education, and the application of several interventions including EMDR catered to your current needs I hope to alleviate any pain or stress you may be feeling on a daily basis. Through effective problem-solving and coping strategies, one can also begin to work through any internal or external conflict they are experiencing that may be impacting any personal or interpersonal relationships. I am a huge believer in holistic wellness and that it is important to look at the whole person not just a single part.

I am Certified as a therapist in the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach(ACRA) in helping teens and families with substance use problems. Dialectical Behavior therapy is a model useful for addictions, cutting, and mood disorders. Attachment based family therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior therapy.

I am comfortable working with many different populations with varying levels of issues. Depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, and military specific stressors are a small cross-section of the issues I treat. I am a sex-positive, kink informed and trauma informed clinician. I am a laid-back person with a robust, and admittedly sometimes immature, sense of humor who is a big believer in radical acceptance. You can expect these things, and many more during our sessions.

As a therapist, I try to provide my client with a calm, nurturing and safe environment. My approach is person-centered and I try to work in collaboration with my client to help them overcome the barriers of life so that they can reach their goals. Often it feels painful and difficult to challenge cognitive distortions, yet I try to assist in a kind fashion to work toward independence and growth.

Stephanie I. Thomopoulos is President and Founder of GeriatriCare® Management, Inc., a private care management firm founded in 1995 that provides individualized services to people of all ages. Although we specialize in Geriatrics, we also provide mental health services, disease management, legal assistance (Guardianship/Conservatorship, family disputes), pre-disability Care Planning, and Care Management to people of all ages.
