I specialize in providing play therapy, psychodynamic therapy, behavioral modification and/or cognitive behavioral therapy for children, teens and families.
One of the most difficult aspects of being a parent is seeing your child in pain and feeling like there is nothing that you can do to help. Whether they feel the pain of depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, divorce or social and academic pressure, my expertise is in helping children connect with their inner strength and confidence. I support families in developing the communication skills necessary to allow children to grow and move forward in healthy ways. I believe all children are unique, and my goal is to help bring out the best in your child.

That said, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) frequently.
I work with individuals and couples who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or are struggling with communication challenges, imposter syndrome or perfectionism. Those I work with often appear to have everything together to the outside observer, but feel like they are struggling on the inside. Together we'll find ways to give the issues impacting you less power over you and your relationships. We will help you make positive, meaningful changes that will better serve you moving forward.

Life can feel overwhelming--but it doesn't have to. If you have experienced trauma, whether recurring or as an isolated incident, even the typical stresses of a normal day can provoke anxiety, fear, anger, or withdrawal. Luckily, therapy can provide you tools to deal with life's challenges, enabling you to minimize your stress levels and continue your personal growth. I will guide you to increased happiness and well-being by supporting you in exploring and enacting lasting, positive changes in your relationships with others, and most importantly, with yourself.

I apply evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy.
Let go, let in, and embrace - I believe these three steps can be the hardest, yet, with compassion, they can be the most life-giving and beautiful approaches to human life. It has always been my greatest pleasure to assist clients in the process of letting go, letting in, and embracing life more intimately. Clients I work with include individuals seeking to transform impacts of trauma or loss, relieve burden associated with hoarding or clutterring, learn more about self-love and love for and with others.

Trained in psychodynamic, relational, mindfulness, family and cognitive behavioral treatment, I'm comfortable providing both long-term or brief psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy is about building relationships. In seeking a therapist, it's important to find one who "gets you"; is able to understand your unique way of relating to the world and to others in your life. My goal is to be accepting of who you are, to help you better understand patterns in your life that are holding you back. I seek to create an environment where you can develop trust, feel safe, respected, cared for. Psychotherapy can be scary and requires a commitment on the part of both the therapist and the client. Although the road is sometimes painful, we travel through it together.

I utilize psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive behavioral concepts as well as mindfulness, DBT, EMDR, and interpersonally based psychotherapy interventions and practices.
I aim to help my clients achieve their goals by dissolving obstacles, discovering patterns, and gaining insights while developing new skills to cope with life challenges. This journey may take a few sessions or several, and it requires motivation, commitment, and consistency. I work best with clients who are willing to be accountable and responsible for the changes they wish to make in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
