Existential themes, past experiences, emotions, core/irrational beliefs, and the internal world will be examined.
Sometimes it's difficult to value ourselves. I believe all individuals have innate worth, and it is my goal to guide clients toward this understanding as self-insight and a healthy self-concept are foundational for emotional and mental well-being. Collaboratively, we will help you develop a kinder, more accurate view of self, deepen empathy, expand perspective, and foster peace and acceptance through trying journeys. Personal experiences have given me insight into depression, anger, and fear and the strength that comes from a trying situation.

Waitlist for new clients
From a psychodynamic and existential framework, my job as your therapist is to provide an open, non-judgmental space to help you access your inner world, and identify fears, desires, and unmet needs honestly, in order to gain deeper understanding of the self, and patterns which may be holding you back.
There are things in life that can lead us adrift, where we may feel that something is missing, have dissatisfaction with our life, or feel stuck in a situation that is draining and dysfunctional but do not know the way out. I’ve found the experiences of our developmental years, to often color the way we see the world, and can create patterns that hinder access to our true self, and thus, a full and conscious life. I believe that authenticity, resilience, and self-efficacy are crucial to living a satisfying life, and I want to help you move through the wounds that have kept you from getting there.

My desire to be a fellow traveler on a client's therapeutic journey is seeded in my first-hand knowledge of the healing benefits of a trusting, counseling relationship. As participants in the human experience, we endeavor and triumph. We face traumas and adversity that shape our views, and negatively influence the present day and our hopes for the future. We have fears and anxiety, which halt our progress and stifle our joy and inner peace.

Do you ever wonder how you fit into the grand scheme of things, how to live a meaningful life, how to create fulfilling connections with others, or how to come to peace with who, at the center of it all, you really are? I love Aristotle's concept of “eudaimonia,” or “the good life.” Sometimes, our pursuit of the good life gets derailed by psychological challenges like anxiety or by the vicissitudes of life and related uncertainty. I love working with individuals and couples on the foundational questions, as well as more specific anxiety-related challenges.

Has it been a while since you've felt like yourself? Maybe you've been irritable, overwhelmed, depressed, tired, or anxious. Let's work together to deepen your capacity for true self-compassion, lasting growth, and help you to create meaningful, fulfilling relationships in every phase of life. As Dr. Brené Brown reminds us, we are wired for connection! When we are disconnected from ourselves, it can make connecting with others difficult and unsustainable. I am honored to support my clients as they explore, identify, and courageously express their desires from an increasingly secure place which is grounded in their values.

I specialize in PTSD, TRAUMA, ANXIETY, GRIEF and loss. My approach is unique from most therapists. Unlike many therapists I don’t just want to listen but help get to the root cause of what is making life difficult. One way I do that is by helping you understand your emotions and working on underlying self-worth issues. Most of our problems stem from denying our real feelings which leads to core social, emotional, and spiritual needs that go unmet. I truly believe that identifying these needs and acting on them is the key to individual happiness and fulfilling relationships.

I work with teenagers and adults dealing with difficult life transitions— experiencing big emotions like depression, anxiety, even trauma to learn how to cope with these in day-to-day life. I work with people that have a tough time understanding and validating their feelings, standing-up for their needs, or with acting in a way that moves their personal life and relationships forward during debilitating thoughts, fears, or hopelessness. We work in a goal-oriented approach with weekly targets designed to move you toward your long-term goals, using the short-term goals to best get there.

I work with clients who are ready to actively address the pain and struggle that comes with difficult life transitions. Whether navigating recovery from religious or spiritual abuse/crises, working through difficult or non-traditional relationship dynamics or healing from trauma, depression or anxiety, my clients will learn the peace that comes with embracing all of it. I help clients create deep internal shifts and trust in their truest selves. They develop insight, radical acceptance, gratitude, and accountability, learning to use life’s difficulties as catalysts towards spiritual growth and psychological maturity.

I view therapy as a place for both the patient and the therapist to be real and authentic. Therapy can be a place where we come together to listen to and honor those parts of ourselves that we cut off. Over time, as we come to acknowledge and accept those parts of self that have been left behind, we can come to feel whole again. In this way, therapy does not eliminate every pain or problem, but it is a chance for reducing unnecessary suffering while being kind to ourselves in the face of the inherent struggles of life.

I have over twenty years experience working with adolescents. My primary expertise is working with teens, parents and family dynamics but I love working with anyone who is seeking to empower and better themselves. I have experience working with almost every problem and issue but I have found that what truly makes a difference is when people learn to be the most powerful element of change in their own lives. People get better when they become empowered and learn to help themselves. That's when they start to look beyond their own limits. I love seeing people make this step, those are the ones I love working with the most.

Existential Therapists

How does existential therapy work?

Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.

Is existential therapy evidence-based?

Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.

How long does existential therapy last?

The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.

Is existential therapy effective?

According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
