I use art therapy, sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or stressed? Do you wonder if life will get better, or possibly a recent or past trauma has influenced your ability to enjoy life, or you have ongoing anxieties about yourself, family or your future. I welcome an initial consultation, where we can speak about your needs before committing to therapy, and you can get an idea of how we could work together. I believe that your search is a step in developing your own strength on the journey towards a Blooming Life.

In addition to talk therapy, we may explore avenues to expression through sensory awareness, art therapy, role playing and others.
* I offer my clients secure video, phone, as well as in person sessions.* My practice includes a range of people and issues and I enjoy that diversity. You bring a curiosity about yourself, your situation and a desire for something different in your life. A common denominator among my clients is your need to be seen and heard for who you are. I am honoured to be an insightful guide to my clients as they discover and express themselves more authentically.

I believe that there is no one size fits all to therapy, that each individual is unique and therefore cater to build customised treatment plans using an eclectic approach (CBT, SFT, ACT, EFT, mindfulness, art therapies).
Are you looking to become your best self? Are you feeling down ,stressed, looking for a different perspective? My focus is to help individuals, couples and families find hope, heal, and become aware of their inner strengths. I achieve this by drawing on multiple theoretical techniques that fit best for the individual. I provide a neutral safe space to improve your emotional and/or social functioning, quality of life and work collaboratively to support you in achieving your counselling goals that fits best for YOU.

My practice is influenced from narrative, mindfulness, IFS, and art therapy approaches.
As a bi-cultural, Egyptian, Arab, first-generation immigrant woman, I draw on my lived experience and understand that it takes courage to seek the vulnerable experience of therapy. This encourages me to listen with empathy, collaboratively looking with you for ways to heal. While it is challenging to look inwards, by understanding our experience we can begin to deepen our connection to ourselves. I see therapy as a vehicle for transformation on a non linear, non judgmental path.

Life can be challenging as each day may bring unexpected stresses or circumstances. We may not always be able to control what comes our way, however, I believe that therapy can be a place that supports you in processing and navigating through those experiences. I understand how difficult it can be to share vulnerable or painful parts of your life with others. That is why my goal as a therapist is to prioritize our relationship and ensure it is a space where you feel valued, heard, and understood.

How often have you had to leave parts of yourself (your ethnicity, your queer identity, your mental health) at the door? Sometimes you might need to be someone else in order to feel safe. It can be hard to love and accept yourself, especially when you live in a world where you are told to keep parts of yourself hidden in order to fit in. I know and understand how racism, discrimination, colonial, structural oppression and queer identities can impact our mental health. I am here to create a safe enough space so that you can feel comfortable bringing all that you are and all that you want to be in our sessions.

Art Therapy Counsellors

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
