Accepting new clients. Do you spiral down rabbit holes of anxious thoughts? Do you feel like an impostor and fear everyone will discover who you “really” are? Do you beat yourself up for things you “should” have done differently? Life is inherently full of stressors. The way our minds are hardwired often results in painful emotions, such as anxiety, depression, anger, or guilt. Like quicksand, the more we fight these thoughts and emotions, the worse it gets. But there’s hope. We can change our relationship with painful thoughts and emotions so they don’t prevent us from living our lives to the fullest.

I really enjoy working with those struggling with eating disorders, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
Have your old ways of coping become less than helpful? Have you noticed that diet culture appears to be calling the shots in your life? Then you're in the right place. Life can get overwhelmingly heavy at times. Let's explore the inner workings of your mind in a safe place, with a safe person. It would be my pleasure to help you view uncomfortable emotions with curiosity and collaborate with you on how to best process your experience. By cultivating an open and honest therapeutic relationship, we can work together to help you overcome the barriers holding you back from living in line with your authentic values.

We all have an image of our best self. This is the person we'd be if we just weren't so tired, so anxious, so angry or so depressed. I think about my work as the process of helping people to become who they already know they are - or could be. Our work together is to find out why you feel those things in the first place so you can move past them and start feeling happier, more productive and more connected to the life you want.

The worry, the pressure, the desire to be perfect, have all robbed you of your ability to truly engage with your life.
Your mind is racing, you feel overwhelmed and like you can barely hold it together. You feel the pressure of the expectations of others and live in constant dread of letting them down, or worse being discovered for being a fraud. Even in the quiet of the night your mind races with all the things you need to do, and is constantly worried about what you have forgotten, or who you may have let down. You feel powerless to change any of it.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
