Feeling stuck? Wondering how you got to where you are in life? Relationship issues? Overwhelmed? Sad? Wanting to make a change but don't know where to begin? These are often the concerns my clients bring into therapy. Through our work together, we find the way forward; no issue is too big or too small. Counseling can help and contrary to popular belief, it can be fun and healing at the same time!

Adolescence and young adulthood is a difficult time of transformation and change for both young people and their families. The process of identity formation and separation/individuation from the family system can sometimes involve conflict and relational strain for all members of the family. Acting out behaviors, both externally (aggression, disrespect, substance use) and internally (withdrawal, isolation, self harm) can be unhealthy ways of expressing that individuality. Increased rigidity, control and consequence sometimes makes things worse. It's a complicated time with complicated solutions that are different for everyone.

We all arrive on this Earth with a plan. Sometimes the plan gets muddled, confusing and scary. Sometimes our labeling of these experiences as “bad” can create stagnation in growth and deny us the insight that we need to stretch into our higher versions of self. When we become aware of this, choice in growth is present. Growth is constant and never ending, especially during challenging times/barriers. However, we only grow when we embrace and feel curious about the uncomfortability. Making space for curiosity allows for integration of wisdom brought by the lessons in our suffering.

There are times in our lives when our repetitive and unexamined emotional experiences can cloud our ability to see our lives with clarity. Through a supportive and strong counseling relationship, we can gain valuable insights into our hearts and minds to make meaningful changes in our actions, thoughts, and behaviors. Through these changes, we can relieve suffering within ourselves and in our relationships and uncover the untapped joy in life. If you are suffering, I invite you to reach out. I would be honored to provide a safe, non-judgmental space to support your journey through the challenges you face.

Individuals of all gender, sexual, and racial identities are welcome at my practice! I believe in the importance of providing a safe and affirming space for individuals to feel curious about and explore themselves, their experiences, and their relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and families who wish for some kind of change in their lives. Common therapeutic goals for the people I work with include, a desire for increased closeness with family and friends, the ability to experience feelings more clearly, a stronger sense of self-worth, and more effective communication within families. People often wish to develop the ability to tolerate individual and collective pain, without doing themselves and each other harm. Most are seeking compassion and understanding. My commitment is to offering that compassion, and to supporting people in achieving their own understanding.

I collaborate with my clients to work on what is important to them, integrating my knowledge and clinical experience to guide the process. I believe that everyone has problems at times, and that these can prevent us from having the relationships and lives we desire. I see therapy as a dialogue and am active and direct in the process. I will partner with you to change old patterns and to draw out your strengths. Most people say I have a genuine, down to earth manner which makes it possible to feel safe and speak openly.

I currently have openings for short-term therapy in the form of "Therapy Intensives" only. I do not currently have openings for weekly individual, couples or family therapy. Therapy Intensives are typically about 4 hours in length but only happen 1-3 times. Therapy Intensives are not covered by insurance. Therapy Intensives are ideal for folks navigating a specific incident or traumatic experience. If you are unsure if this is the right model for you or your family, you may schedule a one-time paid consultation to clarify your treatment needs and goals.

Everybody has a story. How we feel about and interpret that story has a significant impact on our quality of life and how we perceive the events that occur around us. In the therapeutic relationship, we’re given the freedom and support to explore the countless memories, experiences, and feelings that make us who we are. From that relationship we gain insight and understanding that allows us to be more intentional in not only how we act, but in how we feel about the important people around us.

I work with clients who are dealing with a range of difficulties. Through the use of different therapeutic techniques, we can dive deep into past traumas & begin your long waiting healing journey, or work through a current life struggle. Or, I find that some clients simply need an unbiased source to talk through their day-to-day functioning with. If you have a goal that you want to achieve, big or small, we can work to figure out what works best for you. I don't stick to one specific type of therapy in my practice, I believe it is more beneficial to the client if I stay flexible & we find what works best for them & their situation.

I see a state of imbalance in the world that affects all beings and brings out our collective and individual defenses. These intersect with trauma, relationship issues, fear, anxiety, grief, and depression to create patterns of disharmony within our lives and our dynamics with others. Whatever brings you to therapy, I believe that therapy can help ease the burden. I see therapy as a process of co-creatively and compassionately tending to threads of discord that have become intransigent, freeing new pathways of thinking, feeling, and being. With time and attention, therapy can help cultivate and strengthen an inner balance.

Did you know that the body's natural response to stress includes restless, on edge wound up feelings? Stress also compromises our attention? You might feel digestive and sleep issues, feelings of anxiousness, and dis-ease. Has a recent life event, such as a job transition, a shift in your relationships, or unsettling medical news, triggered these feelings of unease? It's essential to recognize that such moments of high alert often present remarkable opportunities for personal growth, even though they may not initially feel terrible, awful or unsettling. From experience, I can help you find brightness in the darker places.

As people, we have a deep need to be understood, and one of the most profound ways to do this is in a safe, trusting, and affirming therapeutic relationship. As a therapist, I work with individuals using a psychodynamic approach. My role as such is to help you identify your needs and put your inner experience at the center, engaging both mind and body, so that barriers to your well-being can be lifted. In my practice, I look to be responsive, collaborative, and affirmative when working with folks' intersecting identities and how those identities show up within the therapeutic relationship.

I believe in building a strong relationship as the foundation for change, and using this collaboration to explore which evidence based and client centered approaches will be most helpful for you. We'll work together to figure out what's right for you based on your own strengths, needs, and preferences. My background in substance abuse counseling as well as crisis services has taught me to be flexible and to recognize the unique challenges which each individual faces and assets they bring to overcome these challenges.
