I’m glad to work with people who have struggled with a diverse range of challenges including depression, anxiety, gender issues, women’s issues, sexual abuse, self-harm, OCD, hoarding disorder, life transitions, and self-esteem, the LGBTQ+ population, including transgender people.
I have a genuine and enduring love for people. I understand that seeking therapy may sometimes feel intimidating, but I endeavor to create a safe, supportive space for people to explore opportunities for growth and change in their lives. I believe in helping people to find their voice, while empowering them to see the strengths that they already have inside.

Amanda spent many years working in the service industry before pursuing a career in clinical social work. While working in this industry, the various injustices in society and stigmas relating to mental health and trauma became more prevalent. Amanda realized that she could no longer remain silent and left this industry to pursue a career that would allow her to bring awareness to mental health stigmas as well as offer supportive counseling to individuals in need.

I have practiced psychotherapy for 26 years. My treatment approach is primarily cognitive behavioral with focus on the whole person. I tailor my approach to the individual as each person brings unique needs to the encounter. We work together to find the right blend of relationship and treatment. My perspective has always been that the best work evolves out of a trusting relationship that is mutual and confidential. I approach people honestly and directly as it is my commitment that trust is necessary and central to a healthy psychotherapeutic experience.

Utilizing EMDR, psychotheraputic yoga, and non-duality framework, I can help with processing trauma, gender and sexual identity development, unhealthy attachment patterns, anxiety, depression, anger management, religious abuse, OCD, body dissociation, and managing neurodivergent identities.
My practice centers queer, neurodivergent adults experiencing complex trauma, maladaptive self image, dissociative concerns, spiritual and identity development, and mood disorders. I primarily help people address intersectional trauma related to family and close relationships, religious abuse, and neurodivergent, sexual, and gender identities. Trauma can intersect with other concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and relationships, and our bodies. Feeling stuck in our own mud, it's easy to lose control or hope. Sex worker friendly.

I specialize in helping adults that are struggling with a difficult life transition and experiencing depression, anxiety or OCD.
We all encounter major stress and loss and often we recover well on our own. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming, confusing and too big to process alone. You can reach out for support, and you don’t have to do it alone. Through therapy, you have the power to focus on what helps you learn and grow. I am passionate about helping clients connect to their core values in therapy. We'll use mindfulness-based therapies to help you become aware of thoughts and behaviors that prevent you from experiencing a joyful and authentic life. I enjoy using humor, creativity and self-compassion in my practice.

I specialize in working with individuals & couples that may have experienced: rupture within their family of origin, obsessive, anxious, & depressive symptoms, and struggles with identity formation.
I hope you take a moment to recognize how much work you’ve done to get to this place. You’ve survived this long, and you should be proud. For most folks, surviving on its own doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to make some adjustments to sustain a more grounded and full life. I want you to experience collaborative healing that is safe, free of judgment, occasionally humorous, and rooted in kindness and gratitude. I currently practice under Therapy Austin and Central Austin Psychotherapy offering in-person and telehealth services.

Although much of my specialized training has been in the treatment of eating disorders and body image disturbance, I also work with depression, anxiety, OCD and relational issues.
I work collaboratively with my clients to help them identify, appreciate and cultivate their strengths so they can utilize them in resolving their difficulties. I use a brief therapy approach to treatment, but the length of treatment depends on the nature of the problem and the needs of the client. I work primarily with adults and older teenagers. The therapeutic relationship is an important part of treatment and it is essential that we feel comfortable working together. A brief consultation would help us to determine if the treatment approach and therapeutic relationship might be a good fit for you.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
