My experience includes PTSD, families, couples, substance abuse, addiction, parenting, anger management, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills, autism spectrum etc.
Hello, my name is Teresa Hoffman and I work at Utah Lakes Neuroscience Mental Health Center where we use an integrative approach to mental health. If you struggling with the ability to think clearly, feel sadness, fear or anger, struggling in your relationships or having a crisis of faith or identity then I am here for you. I became a therapist after my military deployment to Afghanistan and experienced invalidation for my PTSD. I developed a desire to help others who are struggling and want others to understand that their experiences are valid and that there is hope for recovery from what you may be struggling with.

I work with youth, adults, families and couples, struggling with Depression, Anxiety ADHD, Behavioral issues, Adoption and Attachment, Faith crisis, Trauma, Anger and LGBTQIA issues.
Every individual has inherent value, strengths and gifts. I use compassion and a variety of clinical interventions to help my clients work through the challenges that are preventing them from experiencing life in a more fulfilling way. Too often we succumb to the narrative that we are not good enough, flawed, broken. You may have suffered due to trauma and harm inflicted by others or a painful life event. We will work together to help you recognize their own resiliency, heal trauma and harmful messages and gain effective coping strategies.

We work with all ages who are struggling with a variety of issues, including anger, behavioral issues, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and adjustment support.
Life isn't always easy, especially since life post COVID-19 has created many challenges for people at different levels. We understand it can be tough to deal with these situations and the emotions they bring. Both adults and children may be uncovering negative and self-defeating patterns that cause distress.

You don't have to be crippled by anxiety, anger, fear, shame, and intrusive negative thoughts. These symptoms can destroy relationships and isolate you, limiting your ability to feel safe and calm. There is hope that you can move past these events, reconnect with loved ones, and feel happy again. Throughout my career, I have seen amazing transformation in people. It is absolutely inspiring to see clients improve their life and relationships, once they understand how thoughts and patterns of behavior effect their wellbeing.

I have also worked with those dealing with depression, anxiety, attachment issues, relationships issues, anger, mood disorders, ADHD, life or faith transitions, addictions, navigating gender and sexuality, among other things.
Therapy is one of the best forms of self-love and self-care. I applaud anyone who sets aside time and makes space for working on their mental health, managing their stress, dealing with life transitions, improving their relationships, addressing past trauma, or any other things that might bring them to therapy. I believe each person is the expert on themselves and has an innate ability to heal. I want to meet my clients in a spirit of collaboration and respect.

At some point we have all felt overwhelmed, confused or worried about a relationship, life decision or major choice we have had to make. Other times we experience sadness because what we wanted did not work out. Sometimes unfortunate things happen to us and no matter what we do, we can’t forget. We feel powerless, out of control and we can’t move on. What we all have in common is that we want to feel fully alive and connected to our loved ones and free of worry, sadness, anger and disappointment. We want to let go of the past and fully live in the present with hope and optimism for the future.

I'm passionate about treating PTSD (specialization in treating sexual trauma), OCD, anxiety, depression, anger and chemical and sexual addictions.
I am accepting new clients and offer Online Counseling via Telehealth. I've provided over 10,000 hours of therapy and like Confucius said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." I managed LDS Family Services for 13 years and loved directing the 12-step Addiction Recovery Program in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. I've been recruited by multiple residential treatment centers, a hospital, a skilled nursing facility, and by an IOP program assessing and treating substance abuse and domestic violence.

We all experience life’s journey in unique ways. In every path we come across obstacles, form relationships, experience loss, misunderstanding, confusion, anger, and dismay. But we also experience happiness, hope, love and connection. We use these experiences to make meaning and find purpose. However, we, our relationships, and this world are constantly changing. It can be hard to communicate our true meaning or trust that when we do, we will be heard.

Want to vibe with me? Here is where my skill set can help: anger management, faith transitions, self-esteem, PTSD, trauma work, divorce, imposter syndrome, grief/loss work, emotional regulation, and young adults with anxiety or other symptoms.
You’re here because being a HUMAN is hard work. You’re beaten down by the pressures of life, the people in it, and the things you have lived through. I get that. You’ve gotten yourself this far, and I know this can be overwhelming. So here’s how I plan to give you the tools to move from surviving to thriving in your badass life. First of all, the only way I know that therapy works is if you trust and connect with your therapist. So I show up in each relationship with authenticity, no bs, and no judgment. Because once you and I make an alliance-building connection, we have unlimited possibilities for producing really powerful work!

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
