Nick Africo is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in Rhode Island who has been practicing since 2022. He has a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a BA in Psychology. My 25 plus years of experience has been working with children, youth and their families who have a history of trauma/abuse and neglect and struggle with relationships. I have experience in public child welfare, working with RI Family Court, RI Superior Court and various other state and community service agencies. I have worked with victims of violence as well as offenders. My work focuses around helping parents, young adults and children who have struggled with their behavioral health; depression, substance use disorders, anger management, communication, relationship issues and school functioning.

Understanding my clients' view of their world is of utmost importance. I take your feelings very seriously. My specialty areas are tension reduction, stress management, alleviating depression, unresolved grief, ADHD, relationship issues, and health/fitness/weight. I work with individuals ages 15 through 99, as well as with couples. I use a variety of methods depending on the client and problem. For instance, I rely on expressive therapy for unresolved grief, whereas I use mainly behavior therapy for tension reduction. Above all, I check frequently with my clents to be sure the methods I am employing are meeting their needs.

Not every dilemma is a disorder, not every sadness a sickness. While the pandemic, climate change, political polarization, all increase the awareness of existential threats, my clients seek to move toward value, value in relationships, in work, play, in nature. While acknowledging some validity of the concept of “mental disorders” and benefiting from my past working with it, they wish to move beyond the constraints of a diagnosis. Working collaboratively, we engage constructively with the full range of emotion while challenging automatic attachment to our default interpretations. Indeed, we are research guided, relationahip driven.

I conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations of children, teens, and young adults to assess attention, learning, executive-functioning, and social/emotional difficulties. I employ a highly specialized assessment protocol that leads to meaningful home- and school-based recommendations to help children reach their potential. My electronic reports provide online, interactive links to websites, videos, and learning tools that extend the usefulness of the testing. I specialize in working with children with symptoms of ADHD, Learning Disabilities, anxiety, and Autism Spectrum Disorder who struggle with executive-functioning skills and have difficulty completing homework or appear disorganized, distracted, or inflexible in problem solving.

Dr. Jose G. Cruz Rodriguez is a License Mental Health Counselor in the state of Rhode Island, License Profesional Counselor in the state of Connecticut and Puerto Rico, and Advance Alcohol and Drug Counselor, License Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, and DOT Substance Abuse Profesional with over 14 years of experience providing direct behavioral health services in a variety of mental health settings for adolescents and adults.

Primary Therapist Danny Seliger studied at Rhode Island College where he graduated cum laude with a double major in psychology and chemical dependency/addiction studies. Danny is a person in long term recovery and has worked as a substance use clinician at many different levels of care including outpatient, residential, and in an acute psychiatric hospital. Danny’s experience in all these settings has given him a unique skill set in which he is able to treat a variety of substance use and co-occurring issues.

I view therapy as a collaborative, non-judgmental process in which we'll work together to achieve both short and long-term goals which may include: identifying and reframing long-held harmful thought patterns or behaviors, learning how to regulate big emotions, and developing skills with an ultimate goal of empowering you to make meaningful and lasting changes. I have worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, substance abuse, and life transitions.

Due to the many years of experience I have working with children and families, I strongly believe that I will be able to help you resolve the conflicts that are occurring currently in your life. During this process you will also develop the skills to assist you and your family through other conflicts should they occur. With most families I have worked with I have been able to successfully mediate the conflict that has brought them to my office in a timely manner. It is my goal to work to accomplish this while helping all participants to not lose any standing during this process.
