I am now maintaining a waitlist; contact for scheduling options. Adolescence and adulthood are challenging; coping with anxiety, depression, and the daily barriers of life can easily complicate things further. You may struggle to cope with and find balance between the frustrations of school, relationships, work, and family. Maybe you feel it is time to focus on personal growth and seek harmony. Taking the first steps can feel extraordinarily challenging but I will be there to provide support and guidance within your journey. I believe everyone has the capacity to manage life's challenges and I can provide you the skills to do so.

Using a combination of therapeutic approaches, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and other somatic methods, as well as EMDR and Internal Family Systems, my aim is to help individuals identify when they or their bodies are stuck in old habits, to validate their experience and intentionally choose the path forward that aligns with their current goals.
"Long-lasting responses to trauma result not simply from the experience of fear and helplessness but also from how our bodies interpret those experiences." (Rachel Yehuda) Trauma can be thought of as an experience that overwhelms the individual's ability to process the event as it is happening. I work with preteens, adolescents and adults who have been impacted by trauma, to help bring relief to their lives. By partnering with individuals to help release stress, we help you create a fresh, new framework for future experiences.

I conceptualize therapy as a collaborative process in which therapist and client determine treatment content and goals, working to create an environment of compassion, challenge and insight capable of motivating those disruptive changes which constitute so much of the meaning of therapy. In attempting to individualize treatment, I cultivate an integrative responsiveness utilizing those techniques that seem best able to serve the client's needs and promote therapeutic goals. Often these goals extend beyond symptom relief to include the enhancement of psychological capacities and resources through self exploration and discovery in the context of a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship.

I'm dedicated to helping individuals discover and enhance their emotional capacities. I hope to raise awareness within the sense of self, leading to stronger interpersonal relationships and a more fulfilling life. Through the therapeutic experience of being understood by another in a safe and genuine relationship, individuals develop an increased kindness for themselves and others, and are able to experience a more authentic view of themself. This self-awareness often leads us to new ways of relating to others, increased awareness and tolerance for difficult emotions, and the transformation of destructive patterns in our lives.

I believe that every person is unique and has potential to grow and become the best version of themselves. Often the judgement of others guides our life choices and keeps us from meeting our full potential. When you truly accept yourself you can then make choices that lead you to who you really are. You are the expert of your life and my job is to help guide you through the process of self discovery and meet your goals.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
