I am DBT, CBT informed and have an endorsement in Infant Mental Health which focuses on trauma.
Individuals seek therapy for many issues. I have been afforded the opportunity to work alongside people that want help in managing Anxiety, Depression, Self-Esteem barriers and daily stress. Often times these issues are masked by deep rooted trauma, grief and abuse. Individuals need encouragement, support, feeling that they are heard and validation while on their journey to healing.

Hi! I'm Misty! I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and families! My typical client is between 3 and 26 years old and I use a variety of approaches to meet the needs of my clients. I am currently working on obtaining my registered play therapy (RPT) credential and utilize play, art, sandtray, and other expressive arts to make therapy fun for kids! I also will incorporate caregivers into the therapeutic process as needed so the healing can continue happening at home. For adolescents and young adults we can talk, or we can use some of the above techniques to help process. I also am experienced in EMDR and DBT modalities.

I believe in people's ability to change and heal and use a wide range of interventions, including neurofeedback, EMDR, CBT, and DBT.
The ideal person to meet with me is somebody who struggles with trauma and is struggling to overcome the wounds left by the trauma. People struggling with trauma can be people struggling with symptoms from PTSD or developmental traumas. PTSD typically includes people who have experienced or witnessed deadly events or sexual trauma. People with developmental trauma include people who did not experience an organized and loving attachment with their caregivers while they were growing up. In therapy, we work together to identify interventions that meet their specific needs.

Most people know that time in nature and exercise are crucial for our well-being, but a lot of us struggle to find the time and motivation to make it a priority. What if you could do therapy outside in nature and get some exercise all at the same time? You might even learn a thing or two about some plants and animals! If that sounds like an ideal way to spend an hour a week, let's chat!

Experiencing an emotional or personal issue that is restricting your ability to enjoy life? I help clients work on those things that are getting in the way, such as, problematic emotional, behavioral or relational patterns, stress, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Life is really hard at times and it can help to have some extra support, especially, if you are feeling alone, isolated or finding that others don't really understand. NOTE: I am now offering tele-therapy over video as an option for therapy.

Although I spend a lot of time conducting psychological assessments, I truly enjoy the time I get to spend as a therapist walking through life with my clients. At one point in time or another, all of us struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, big-emotions and overall ineffectiveness in our life. In therapy, we not only spend time discussing ongoing issues and current difficulties, but we also focus on themes in our lives and the ways that our thinking patterns can inhibit our ability to create the unique life that we want to live.

I approach each session with a nonjudgmental, empathetic, and listening ear. Through my work, I invite you to explore outside your comfort zone to realize the abundance of possibilities that may exist for you. Because all relationships go through ups and down, I will offer support to examine how you can focus on personal development while, also introducing techniques that will improve your relationships with yourself and others. I feel it is important to meet people where they are at but still encourage goal setting. When working with clients, I look at how past experiences, including trauma, affect their current experiences.

The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a fact of life that everyone, at some point or another, faces struggles. Sometimes, in this society, it is deemed more acceptable to suffer in silence than to reach out and ask for the help you need. I believe that every experience you have had, every triumph, every setback, is important and gives meaning to who you are; your whole identity. I believe that every person has the answers they need, and sometimes it takes extra work to find them. I believe that a therapeutic space, where a person can be heard and valued as a person of infinite worth, is incredibly healing.

Not accepting new clients
I work with clients who are wanting to understand themselves more fully, figure out what may be holding them back from the life they've imagined for themselves, uncover what is beneath troubling behaviors, and/or find ways of being and relating that feel healthier and more fulfilling. Some clients come in speaking of feeling discouraged, restless, worried, unfulfilled, or unhappy within themselves and/or their relationships; others come in with just a vague sense that life could feel much better.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
