Expressive arts, play, and sand therapies are a fun aspect to the creative counseling support I offer.
I believe that seeking help for life's struggles doesn't have to feel like work; in fact, I prefer to take "a spoon full of sugar" approach with people of all ages. I enjoy working with people who are interested in learning about themselves or who find themselves adjusting to transitions. Loss, chronic illness, parenting, anxiety and/or depression are all areas of familiarity.

In my work, I draw from ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), mindfulness, expressive arts, internal family systems (IFS) and other trauma-informed practices through a social justice lens.
Hi there! I’m so glad you’re taking the step to reach out and connect with someone familiar with helping people navigate the challenges life often throws at us. From depression to burnout, and anything in between, I’m here to help you not only work on the issues at hand, but help you uncover the core reason why you're no longer feeling like yourself. While I specialize in working with clients 16+ struggling with eating disorders, I’m also passionate about trauma work, neurodivergence, attachment concerns, and general mood changes.

Looking for support, personal exploration, to improve mental health? Counseling can be a great tool for self-improvement. Many of us may find ourselves faced with overwhelming stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues in these challenging times. Counseling can be a safe place to process this and a way to discover inner resilience. I especially enjoy working with creative, artistic, intuitive and spiritual individuals. My style is highly interactive and conversational where we will help to identify underlying issues, determine where these originated and help to improve your level of functioning.

At times an individual may want extra support to talk about and or explore areas in their life that are causing stress: It can lead to anxiety, depression, mood changes, substance use, compulsive behaviors, and anger. If anyone of these emotional or behavioral issues become significant it can affect relationships, education, finances or day to day functioning. In session, the individual will examine past, present and future experiences that impact thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to better cope with stressors in our life and in session the client will examine which strategies work best.

I believe that at the core of all of us is a desire to feel connected. Many things in life can contribute to a feeling of disconnection, including substance use disorder, trauma, or communication problems within relationships. I think the answers are already within each of us. Therapy is a way to unlock those answers so you can live freely and authentically. I believe in fostering a deeply caring, non-judgmental atmosphere where you can feel heard, seen, and supported. I meet people where they are and together, our work involves making incremental changes that improve your life.

Adults and teens can benefit from expressive arts as well as having the ability to process what they have been through.
From the beginning of my career, I have worked with children and families on helping to improve functioning in the home. The children I have worked with have had issues coping with multiple stressors, difficulties managing their thoughts and feelings and the behaviors that came with that were things that they wanted to change. I also work with adults with issues that they have around many different facets including but not limited to self acceptance, parenting a child, optimal self care and more. I also like to work with people of any age to support with life transitions and self discovery.

I am an Expressive Arts Therapist, trained in Trauma-Informed care and Anti-Oppression practices.
I am non-binary, polyamorous, and pansexual and love providing support to people in the LGBTQ+ community. I love working with children and teenagers, but have no specific age restrictions on my practice. I'm seeking clients who need to explore their emotions, experiences, and behaviors in an expressive way. Talking only gets us so far, whereas in my experience, use of the Expressive Arts (dance, drama, music, art, and writing) has an ability to get at the deeper stuff.

Expressive Arts Therapists

What happens in expressive arts therapy?

In an expressive arts therapy session, the therapist will provide the space and materials necessary to encourage the client to express themselves creatively. These can include art supplies, musical instruments, a journal, a camera, and more. The therapist offers careful guidance throughout the creative process, often noticing and talking about psychological issues as they arise. Many clients also benefit from the mind-body connection—the physical act of making art can help them feel more grounded and present.

How long does expressive arts therapy take?

An expressive arts therapy session will typically last between 50 minutes and an hour. Group sessions may run longer. Sometimes, a client might only need one or two sessions of expressive arts therapy in conjunction with talk therapy to resolve a psychological issue. Others might find a fixed number of sessions over the course of either weeks or months to be beneficial. The duration depends on the client and their individual needs and goals for therapy.

How does expressive arts therapy help children?

Creativity is an important part of normal child development. Expressive arts therapy proves a safe outlet for child clients to learn to identify their emotions and express them in healthy ways. In expressive arts therapy, children can build their self-esteem, discover more about their personality and strengths, and feel a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world. This therapeutic approach can be particularly helpful for children with developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, speech impairments, and other conditions.

What are the limitations of expressive arts therapy?

Sometimes individuals have physical limitations that can affect their ability to express themselves artistically in certain mediums. For example, someone with hearing problems might find it difficult to make music. Sickness and mobility issues can make some types of art physically inaccessible (e.g., sculpting, dancing, etc.). Sometimes, clients are overly skeptical and have trouble letting go and engaging with the creative process. Individuals who require a higher level of care may be better served with other types of therapy.
