Life can be crazy great, yet crazy HARD! Sometimes, despite your best efforts, things don't go as planned. In fact, sometimes life gets completely out of control. Like now. Right? Otherwise you wouldn't be taking this difficult step of seeking help. You aren't sure what happened or what went wrong, but you are sure that this isn't what you thought this season of your life would look like. Our 1st session of therapy won't fix the problems or make them go away...in fact, our 4th session likely won't make the problem go away either, but it will help you find the answers, courage and strength within yourself to keep going and heal.

Reality is, feelings of anxiety, pain, sadness, and uncertainty surface for many individuals. Trauma, loss, transitions, relationships, and much more could be bringing these to the surface. Reaching out for help is your first step, and one that I admire greatly. Working along side animals in my office, you will find compassion, love, and understanding. My goal is to help you build skills that allow you to relate more authentically to the world around you. We will spend time reflecting and opening understanding around how you are in relationship to the world, other, and your self. I want to help you feel better, that starts with you.

Hurt is a part of healing. Much like physical wounds, mental and emotional wounds also require attention and proper care in order to heal. However your wounds were acquired (relationships, addiction, trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, etc.) I am here to help you heal. I provide a safe, comfortable and wholly accepting space to help you heal whatever past or present wound that may be hurting you. Healing is possible and you deserve to live life without the pain of unkempt wounds and embrace all that you've overcome.

You are so much stronger than you realize. But when life throws you for a loop, it can be difficult to see it. Therapy is a place you can come work through life's difficulties, gain new perspectives, and relearn how to see the inherent good in yourself. I enjoy working with women who are navigating eating disorders, body dysmorphia, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-doubt, and other life challenges. I also enjoy working with children as they navigate life. Acknowledging you need therapy is a brave step. I deeply admire you for taking it. Everybody has a superpower, you just may not realize it. Let me help you find yours.

As your therapist, I will work from a humanistic approach, which means you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you move through trauma and ineffective behaviors to more fully understand and respect yourself. This means that I trust your instincts and your body. All of the work we do will be done through a trauma-based lens to encourage self-compassion and challenge shame. Your life going forward doesn't have to be a repeat of your past. We can shift these patterns through becoming fully present in your body and with your emotions. I strongly encourage people to use their intuition to help guide their healing.

If you are looking for a therapist, your body and mind are probably overwhelmed with an emotional load. To wake up and face the world each day can be nerve-wracking and debilitating, and it often feels as if there is no reprieve from the storm. But within the storm, joy and peace can exist. I want to help you find this. I am passionate about helping individuals with OCD and anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and life and faith transitions (specifically LDS related). Whoever you are, you have an important story and are worth any effort it may take to help you feel empowered, stable, and enthusiastic about life.

Life is difficult, and none of us are immune from painful events or circumstances. Day-to-day life is far more painful when we are burdened with unresolved trauma, OCD, anxiety, or grief. When facing one or more of these struggles, it can feel like we are at war with our minds and emotions. We start to see ourselves as the problems and our world gets smaller and lonelier over time. This is a scary place that breeds hopelessness, powerlessness, and shame.

I am trained and experienced in supporting individuals suffering with anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, intrusive thoughts and life transitions. I work best with clients who value curiosity and intimacy with themselves and others. In my practice, I incorporate the notion that our bodies carry the story of past traumas, experiences and emotions that oftentimes surface as distressing thoughts and physiological symptoms. I go beyond conventional problem solving to integrate your thinking, feeling, sensing, and spiritual realms and offer a compassionate and nonjudgemental space for you to navigate these complexities and improve regulation.

I also use DBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) Treatment for Skin Picking and Hair Pulling Disorders.
My clients have come to therapy because they're looking to pull themselves out of crisis, understand themselves better, find answers, and create action plans to build and maintain the life they want and deserve. Sometimes, they just need to vent about life - And that's just as important! Their ultimate goal is to find some sense of peace and happiness within themselves, their relationships, life trajectory, self-image, spirituality, and/or sexuality. Underlying discontent with life can derive from a variety of sources whether it's mental illness, general life stressors, or both.

I am taking new clients for OCD, ADHD, hoarding, anxiety disorders, depression, high-functioning autism, attachment wounds, trauma, EMDR treatment for trauma, emotional neglect, chronic illness, aging, and adult children of alcoholics.
You know you want to make changes, but you can’t make sense of your own behavior. You're worried that you may be getting in your own way. Maybe you feel driven by perfectionism, or maybe you can't figure out why you are stuck on something that seems obvious. Do you need another mind to show you different ways to move forward? I can help. There's a great metaphor in the Japanese culture, where they practice a form of ceramics, kintsugi, that repairs cracks with gold to create a new work of art. If you find your mind or life in pieces, let’s make sense of the pieces, build your confidence, and create something new together.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
